Anyone have any experience taking Brompton's solution for pain management?

It's called Bromptons' Cocktail, and no one gets it unless they're in a hospice and dying. (Usually) A mixture of heroin, cocaine etc, a potent analgesic and sends you in a pleasant mood into the great beyond. I tried to get them to give it to my dad when he was dying of cancer and in great pain. (Instead of the lousy mscont. which I'm still upset about.) Good luck finding, administering it. (Basically this is what John Belushi, countless others have died from))There may be some other ingred. but the main dish is a giant speedball. Do a google for more specifics.

Brompton's Cocktail hasn't been available for years upon years.
Heroin is a Schedule I in America- it is not in any medicine. Pharmaceutical heroin exists only outside of America. Cocaine only has limited use as a local anesthetic.
We have better drugs than the combo of heroin/cocaine/alcohol for pain management.

Yawkaw3,
So what you're trying to say about Brompton's Cocktails is that we shouldn't expect to order at the local watering hole?
However if I were dying and in severe pain, I suspect it would be a potent drink.

oh LOL! seeing this heading took me back 25 years. I used to share house with some hospice nurses & they would wax lyrical about this stuff. I only hope whatever they use these days is as peaceful & pleasant for those on their way out.
Jason, Im really sorry to hear that your Dad wasnt treated with the care & respect he deserved. Ive seen it here too - the unbelievable hysteria doctors now have of prescibing morphine. Ive had a friend die from breast cancer a couple of years ago. She wanted to die at home & there were friends, registered nurses taking care of her round the clock & you wouldnt believe the battle they had to fight to get morphine for her because she wasnt in a hospital & he would have to write the script! For crying out loud she had a week to live is addiction really an issue there???????????
Makes me so mad just thinking about it!

A friend of mine's Dad owned a pharmacy, and my buddy told me of Bromptons Cocktail back in 79-80. He actually worked at the pharmacy and told me they made it one time with the mortar+pestle (sp?) or compounding as it is known in layterms. He said they used the 1 grain morphine tablets(very small, about the size of a microdot if anyone remembers those!) and pharmaceutical cocaine that was made by USP, the bottles of cocaine hydrochloride were ordered in 1 oz portions at the pharmacy and on the side of the bottle it said"small fluffy crystals". I'm almost positve he said it was then mixed with alcohol to make the cocktail which came in a cough syrup bottle. Directions were to swish it around in the mouth and kind of gargle it before swallowing. I'm not going to get myself in trouble here, so let your imagination wander. Ahh... the good ole days!!!! My friend is now a Pharmacist himself now, a chip off the old block!!!
P.S. I remember him telling me that his dad din't grind the morphine very well so he mentioned it to Dad and his reply was, huh, well maybe she'll get a rush off of it!!!! LOL!!
