What is this anesthesia?
      #203367 - 11/27/04 10:12 AM

I had a certain medical procedure done a few weeks ago. When I went in to pre-admit, do lab work, etc, I expected to be able to talk to the anesthesiologist, as I had several questions about the drugs that would be administered. I was told she wasn't available at that time and would call me at home. She never called.

When I went in for the procedure, I was reassured I would get to talk to her beforehand. As it turned out, I didn't see her until she was administering the anesthesia. I asked her what she was using. She started to reply and that's all I remember. I was out like a light...

I thought there was some kind of rule that said the anesthesiologist had to talk to you. Am I wrong? It was upsetting to me because I really had some concerns and wanted to discuss them with her.

Anyway, I was looking over a copy of the report that was sent to my PCP and it said MAC anesthesia was used. Anyone know what that is?

TIA

first question MAC stands for Monitored Anesthesia Care.
Monitored Anesthesia Care (

This is where they dont use general anesthesia. it is less of a hazzard then using Halothain of othe vaperized agents. they use iv meds such as versed and fentaly.

second it is normal for them to talk with you for a history if you had problems to vaperized meds. but if they were not going to use that there is lees need to. the common thig they are asking is have you every had malignat hyperthermea or nasua to asnestethia. so in your case they probly did not use inhaled meds but iv meds. but if you ask to see them it is common curtsey to let you talk to them

I have had a couple of knee operations over the last twenty five years. The first time way back when they put me in the hospital the night before. The anesthesiaoligist came and talked to me that night. He really fixed me up before I left the room and the willies were sure gone. The second time I went in for a arthroscope, in at eight home by two.The anesthesiaolist came and talked to me but gave me nothing before putting me out. It was nuts I was scared the table was cold and the operating room looked like a clean version of my workshop. The third time was also an in an out,I was called the night before. I told the guy I was more scared than twenty years ago.He said this is not uncommon and I will take care of you. I was given a small amount of versed before he took me away.I never slept but no hebee jebees. I guess the point is they all contacted me but I think it was just out courtesy.
