I have been taking Norco 10's for a while and my last consultation w/ my Dr. we decided to try Vicoprofen due in part to no evil apap, and the Anti-Infamatory may help as well, and the Dr. may have also like the lower Hydro content...
It is a generic and the first time I have taken it, the markings on the Pill is round and white pills with 5161 on one side and the other blank...From what I know this is made by Teva Pharmaceuticals and is beleived to be the first generic on the market for this drug; though their may now be others.
My question/problem is when taken it is very different from the Norco and all the Hydro for that matter that I have been on in the past. I get a very sick feeling, not the typical nausea feeling from a Hydro med, and what is strange is it did very little if anything for my pain even after taking a couple! I bit later I took one of the couple remaining Norco's, which always seemed to work great, though last night a few hours after taking the Vicoprofens they seemed to gave me a "weird feeling" as well?? This morning my Norco (which sadly I am now down to one and a half!) had the same effect and not as effective, almost as if the Vicoprofen has altered my bodies reaction to the medications?? I know this can't be the case; but.... I wonder whether I shoud continue to take the medication and see if my body get used to it as I need something today and my Dr. aint available for consult and is on vcantion for a few dyas next week!!:( Hopefully somebody has a relevant experience to share...
Has anybody else taken Vicoprofens? If so with what success? I have a refill on it, but I am afraud to take anymore and would rather have any hydro type but this now...Is it possible that my body just may need to adjust or maybe one of the inactive ingredients is causing problems as i have taken hydro and I have taken Ibuprofin many times before, so it must be: a crappy generic, or something. Maybe I should ask for Brand Name at next refill, albeit more expensive it may be worth it.
Any help or experiences appreciated.
Please note: I am not seeking "Medical Advice" merely seeking experiences, examples and educated guesses as they pertain to your own trials and whatvever and will take them as such.
Thanks for any help all!!

I have taken Vicoprofen over the summer and really didn't notice any difference between the two, except a lower hydro dose (7.5 vs 10) so basically I would just take a few more VPs to make up the difference.
My stomach is not sensitive to meds like that but because of the ibuprofen content, you might have become nauseous due to that...happens to lots of people.

Thanks for you input and the taking the time to note your input. However in my case I have taken 3 and it just increases the crappy fealing and I used to routinely take Advil with my Norco so the two active ingredients I don't think are to blame?? Maybe the inactive ingredients, something in one of the fillers or binders or something my body doesnt like. Thats too bad, this is supposed to be my 2 month suppy of meds and I am afraid to take it. Maybe next fill the Brand name will help better...
What brand of Vicoprofin did you take was it Teva brand white and round or; I have heard others have Generics available now as well?
Thanks for any and all input; any help is appreciated!

The first RX I had for VP was the actual brand name stuff and the refills were of generic VP..I believe they were round and white. I never looked into it that deeply so I don't know the generic brand co, however...SORRY!
Have you ever been sensitive to inactive ingredients or fillers before? That's an odd one...

I was given Vicoprofen (generic) last spring for a work injury, had exactly the same reaction, and, like you, was used to supplementing hydrocodone/apap preparations with OTC ibuprofen. Can't explain it, but after a while (maybe three or four days)the problem subsided and the Vicoprofen was fine.
Peace,

My understanding is that you DO NOT want to mix ibuprofen and APAP. It will make you sick. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

It doesn't make me sick, and it has been recommended for me by doctors. The rationale is the additive effect of pain relief due to the two different mechanisms of action.

I suspect that the nausea associated with the Ibuprofen is what you are experiencing. It as a VERY common GI side effect. This was the reason that celebrex, and vioxx instantly became a HUGE hit with the medical community. Less potential GI side effects.
That is WHY VICOPROFEN is NOT is a good LONG TERM treatment for pain. It Should only be used for 10 days or less. If you don't believe or trust me, check the PRESCRIBING info in the PDR. Be Carefull if a prescribing doc gives it for longer than 10 days because of the potential adverse affects associated with GI and kidneys (LONG TERM chronic NSAID use has in a small number of cases been associated with a disease condition called NSAID NEPHROPATHY).
NSAIDS have a much GREATER side effect profile than does acetomenaphen. That is why APAP is so mcu more commonly used in hospitals and the medical community.
Good luck.

Sorry for butting in. Generic vicoprofen tends to be the Teva brand. Small, white. I've never seen anything else.

I understand that. However What I do not understand is that when I take Advil I feel zero effect. It is something with the combination of the Hydrocodone with it, which I have also taken many times with zero side effects...Only thing I can think is the fillers/binders (which would be rather odd) or the Teva brand is [censored]....
This kind of stinks, I wish I would have stayed with the Norco now.... Oh well, here's hoping my body adjusts to it, like the above poster mentioned.
