After reading everyones responses and doing a little research, I've decided on Phentermine, but I've also ordered a small amount of Ritalin to try (I know, I know, but I just have to see for myself!) I won't be mixing the two though in case anyone is concerned, I'll definately be taking them seperately. I have to admit the decision to try these was largely due to the fact that they are the only meds (of the types we've been discussing) that my reliable source carries... plus, he doesn't ask any questions re: BMI or anything else for that matter. But mainly, the general consensus seems to favour Phentermine, and as they are fairly cheap and have a quick onset... they sound like the perfect option. I'll update everyone if and when I get any results with them.

DietPrescriptions carries Didrex. Kinda pricey compared to the phentermine and tenuate that I'm used to, but they have it!

What works best for you out of all of the meds you've tried?

I use 37.5mg phentermine for 2-3 days, then take 35mg tenuate for a couple of days, then back to phent. Reduces the tolerance that way. There is also a 25mg tenuate that is short acting that you can supplement if need be. DietPrescriptions is the only one that carries the 25mg tenuate, and are pretty reasonably priced for phent and tenuate. I think www.usamedsforless.com is cheaper though.

Just had to comment on this thread title - RITILAN (methylphenidate) is NOT APPROVED for weight loss. ADHD and narcolepsy are the only AMA approved uses.

Desoxn(Methampetimine) is approved by the AMA for short-term treatment of morbid obesity - THERE IS NO CSN STIMULANT approved for weight loss outside of morbid obesity.

If you're using CSN stimulants for weight loss chances are your abusing it.

CUT out beer, pizza and start walking everyday.

And stimlant use is a major biych - I have to REMIND myself to eat at least twice a day.

I wasn't asking if it was approved, I was merely questioning whether it would help me to lose weight. I also know that Ritalin is used for add/adhd as mentioned in the original post. Whether CNS stimulants are 'approved' or not is again, no concern of mine. Also, you aren't necessarily abusing a cns stimulant just because you are using it for weight loss.

As for the diet tips, if you'd bothered to read any of the previous posts you would realise they are of no significance to me in this particular circumstance.

Salstar, I'm sorry if I kind of "went off" on you. Since I have experienced eating disorders first hand it freaks me out that society places so much importance on being thin. However, I might add that usually eating disorders do not have a lot to do with eating. There are other self worth issues at work. You will be fine at 120. Just be careful. All I was trying to tell you is that you probably look fabulous at your current weight and a number is not important. However I am the last one that should tell anyone how they should feel. Another reason that this hit a chord w/me is that I see my dear mother wasting away. She weighs less than 90 lbs after weighing between 120-130 her entire life. She would give anything for some meat back. If you saw her you would realize how sad it is. I know that at 29 you never dream that you will look like a walking skeleton but it does happen. Just be careful what you wish for.

want2bcalm: You don't have to apologise hon!

I understand that this is a very touchy subject, particularly if you've gone through or know someone who has gone through the agony of an eating disorder. It's actually nice to know that people care enough to mention it... the intentions were good and that's all that matters.

I'm truly sorry to hear about your mother, it must have been hard for you to hear someone ranting about wanting to lose weight for vanity when your poor mother is wasting away before your very eyes.

Please accept the following and most sincere hug

My heart goes out to you both.
