WWW.PONUDNIK.COM MENGES SI
      #197716 - 11/02/04 01:40 AM

Does anyone recognize the above address? The site is in a foreign language but appears to be a payment center of some sort.

The reason I am asking -
There is a charge on my cc from the above address and for the life of me I cannot figure out what I bought for the amount that was charged.

Thanks very much,
C

The payment confirmation I got last time I ordered from Pharmatico.com came from ccPonudnik. Have you ordered anything from Pharmatico recently?

I have no idea what the word PONUDNIK signifies. The actual processing was done by a company called ECS-GLOBAL.COM, payment made to AKIRA RESOURCES.

Funny word, PONUDNIK. Who knows.

My best bet is Slovenian. (not Slovak), because I could read enough of the paed to tell that it said something about putting your credit in (a former SSR nation) that had a name much longer than "Slovakia."

Which leaves you to wonder where the menges si came from, which looks pretty clearly of Latin descent.

Anyway, as Potatoboy mentioned, they're a obviously a CC processor, and I bet pretty soon all of our CC processors are going to wind up in former SSRs, because what do they care if someone's selling some benzos online for a 5000% markup? These new CC processors probably congratulate them and then realize they can get a piece of the pie if they join in.

Just, uh, don't ever, ever, ever expect to be able to get your money back if things go wrong. Once you've suffered 10,000% inflation overnight, you have little pity for any foreigner who loses a couple of hundred bucks.

That was my Slavic Current Event lesson for the day.

I sort of vaguely remember that at some point during the last year, a number of reliable IOP's were totally cut off from using Paypal to process payments. Many of them at the time switched to requiring money orders as the only form of payment, and most of these IOP's gradually drifted off the boards. It was just too much of a pain to buy an international MO, mail it to someplace overseas, wait for it to arrive, wait for your order to ship, etc etc etc,

I think that's more or less what happened to Pharmatico (correct me if I'm wrong). So it makes sense that someone took advantage of the opportunity to provide alternative CC processing.

That is worrisome, toe. Anybody got a Romanian phrase book that includes "I want to do a chargeback, please"?

Romanian is a completely latin language, you would have more luck communicating in French there than you would in the languages of any of the neighboring countries or or-God Forbid, Russian. If you don't believe me, read Eva Hoffman's chapter on Romania in Exit into History. There is no Slavic in Romanian That's a common mistake.

There a latin-based roots in all languages, you will here the word "techologia" all over the world and even the roots of the word for widow (when you comensate for the fact that w-->v in most languages and vowels drop out) is the same from here through Russian (v/dova) {/indicates dropped vowel, added 'a' is necessary as a marker for the feminine gender).

That page is written in a Slavic language. Please don't argue with me. When it gets cold, I have a lot of useless degrees to burn that earned me the right to tell you that I know more than you about Slavic Language and Literature, and perhaps in this one instance- about general linguistics, as well. Pick up an Intro to Linguistics book and look at the language tree.

Macedonian has a lot of Greek influence, Polish has a lot of German influence, but they are Slavic languages.

All indo-european languages contains Latinisms.

They will be able to understand English. I would not use the term "chargeback," though (and I certainly wouldn't use romanian- for god's sakes). Credit cards- the whole concept of being able to keep your money in a bank and not have the bank blow up, or the idea of "credit"- the idea that your lender will be alive tomorrow is a very, very new idea in many of these nations.

I would make you sentences as simple and choppy and possible: I have not receive my product from ______ conf #.
Would you be so kind, to help me receive my money back?

The "Would you be so kind" seems a little over the top--but it's a direct translation of a phrase often used when asking a favor in many slavic languages, and should there be any doubt in whether I know what I'm talking I about, I graduated with high honors in Russian, have 5 years of post-baccalareate education in Slavic and East-European language and literature, and have taught dozens of students who have become Russian majors after their classes with me and come back to ask for reccomendations.

I also somehow managed to figured out the ingredients in the train stop food stand in the Slovak republic and get my family something to eat, as well as getting them on the right train in Czech. I don't actually speak either of those languages- I speak Polish and Russian. That website is in a Slavic language.
