Hey all,
My doc just recently put me on Clonazepam for anxiety issues (I have stress induced hyperventilation). I really can't take it during the day, when the stress is the worst, because it makes me really tired. I have taken it at night, to help me sleep (because I also have panic attacks in the middle of the night...and chronic pain) but it gives me really bizarre dreams!
I'm on the lowest dose (.5 mg) and even when I cut it in half during the day it makes me sleepy. If I take it at night I usually double up (to 1 mg) because it really keeps me asleep.
Any suggestions on some different meds that won't make me so sleepy. I have read the pharm books but most of the drugs have side effects of sleepiness so I wanted to get some personal opinions.
THANKS!

Some doctors will tell you that SSRIs can be used to treat anxiety, although I've never had much sucess. One doctor had me on wellbutrin in addition to klonopin and celexa for the purpose of giving me "a little boost," but that didn't seem to work either.
It seems to follow that any really effective anxiety med would make someone tired; I guess one has to choose between the lesser of two evils: anxiety or sedation.

Yeah,
they put me on Zoloft too. I had to stop taking it b/c that made me even more tired and it gave me a medicine head feeling. Then when I stopped taking it I went through withdrawl...honestly it was the worst experience I've ever had with a medication!
I guess I'm just going to have to do exactly what you said...choose between the two evils.
Just wondering, you said you were on Klonopin. That is the name brand for Clonazepam. Do you ever feel really light headed and dizzy when you take it. My boyfriend and I were in the mall the other day after I had taken some and I felt really dizzy and had to sit down for 1/2 hour (he thought I was crazy).

See if you can get xanax.
It works much quicker than kolonopin.
kolonopin is made to be alot smoother and last longer.
I would just pop a xanax whenever i started feeling anxious.

Personally, xanax knocks me flat out on my [censored]. It is much more potent than klonopin, and has a shorter half-life (which means it kicks in fast and hard!). I have heard that the withdrawal from xanax is worse than heroin!
Consequently, I use xanax sparingly... for instance, I plan to take one before my job interview on monday because I don't think I could get through it otherwise. But for MY normal level of anxiety (which is high because I have SAD and GAD), klonopin seems to work the best without making me unfunctionally tired. I became very lethargic and forgetful when I first started taking it, but think the side effects are less severe now (or maybe I'm just more tolerant).
Either way, Xanax is NOT going to make you less tired!! The first time I took xanax, I ran off of the road and onto a sidewalk and cut both of my right tires.
