I just got back from my pain clinic and was prescribed Avinza 30mg twice a day and percs 10/325 4 times a day for breakthrough pain and i am just wondering if the Avinza is anything like i have been taking which is hydro 10/325 4 times a day. I am wondering if it much stronger,more effective and if it will make me feel loopy or anything like that? my pain doc said when i come back in a month if it is not working that they will try a different long acting med like OC or methadone and the methadine is something i really dont want to try at this point because i have heard the w/d are terrible more than hydro w/d...also since i have been on hydro for several years will i have any w/d from switching to these new meds? TIA

Avinza is pure Morphine. They usualy come in capsules filled with little whit pellets similar to Kadian.

thanks for the info but i am wondering if it close or similar to hydro and will i go into w/d since i was not rx'd hydro

When I was switched medications from hydro to something else, I continued to take tylenol to help since I stopped taking hydro. It helped with the headaches. Be sure to check for drug interactions or too much actimatiphen first though.

Actually, I think the perc's will more than take care of any withdrawl symptoms from stopping hydro. You should be fine with those for backup. I wish I had a couple of 10/325 perc's right now!!
