BTW--Doctors are being threatened with criminal arrests for giving flu vacine to the wrong people. Somehow I think law enforcement have better things to do than arrest doctors: like preventing Chechan terrorists from entering our country or protecting our schools.
This is true, I called my MD office and they told me the same thing!! They put me on a lottery. Riciculous, are they going to spend time reconciling the doses with who received them??? The office gave me a number for a nurses assoc. that is in certain places each day giving out flu shots and they are harassing MD's??? They need to hassel the MD's that don't treat pain and those who actually are out there misdiagnosing etc.

I know there is a doctor in NY that said he can ship a flu shot from Canada for $30.00 and I just saw on TV that the US is working with Canada to get some Flu shots!

However, I just read in my paper, ALL members of Congress wil get one, whether they are healthy/young.
I'm sure the administration, their family, and their friends will get one.
However, my young son with chronic asthma cannot get any.
There is none to get. His doctor told me this morning that his order of vaccine that he ordered one year ago has been taken by the government.
No matter what Bush/Cheney, etc. tell you, apparently their lives are much much more important than ours.

Our court systems are bogged down and yet you are set to go court within a week after arrest. IF that is correct, i found this hard to beleive. It takes months to at the earliest.
Again, this is another poster with just a few posts.
I now see why people are ranked by their number of posts and how many they have posted in the past. They are more crediable with more posts because despite some thinking, it takes TIME to make a hundred posts .
Actually, I WAS visted by the MIB (in reality they went to my parent's house since I have a lot of mail delievered.
Three guys showed up according to my mother. If you want, clik on my user name and scrwoll into the past. I made several posts.
Nothing happened and in November, I think it will be one year old. They had no case . I was set up by a pharmacist that I had good dealings with for years and suddenly turned on me. I have no idea why to this day except he lost a good customer.
His loss. Besides, he was cheap in the beginning and got greedy toward the end.
Do not PM on this as I will NOT discuss this further.

Going to court within a week is nearly impossible...UNLESS..the poster was referring to the preliminary hearing, which is usually quite fast.
I was arrested for possession of a controlled substance (and DUI) in May and still do not have a court date. I went to the prelim, which was about 10 days after my arrest, and to 2 'roll calls' for my bail/bond.
A preliminary hearing, is an informal hearing in which the judge decides wheather there is enough evidence to prosecute.
HOWEVER, for some reason, my OP prescription was not allowed to be admitted in the prelim. In fact my attorney was not allowed to provide any evidence, but only to question the arresting officer.
On another subject and just a FYI to those using OP's, it is not looking like my prescription bottle will be enough to get the charges dropped. It doesn't help that it was from one of the pharms that was raided and shut down in PA. some months ago.

I always assumed since my bottles were legit, all the docs info, dea # and my name and info that I wouldn't have a problem. I also have traveled to central america, mexico and the caribean with them as carry on, never had them looked at but I didn't think it would be a problem.
Normally I don'y carry meds with me when I drive since I only take them at night (usually) but I know women that have all sorts of bottles in their purse and I figured if its properly labeled then its legal, just like if you had a bottle of viagra or propecia.

Hi to Stevesmith:
Sorry I didn't reply sooner--I had the flu.
RE the research about racial bias. I didn't do any research, I quoted Dr. Green's, who is African American. She's published her results in many medical magazines. I'll be glad to publish cites if anyone is interested.
I'm still not feeling that great, but appreciate everyone's questions. I've had several healthcare providers on the West Coast dispute Dr. Green's findings, thus the reason for my statement about her results might be regional.
I'd be glad to listen to anyone's story. Since my book is about discrimination against pain sufferers, I haven't included any stories about people satisfied with their medical treatment. A non sequitur!
Since I haven't observed racial bias personally, I'd really like to hear from those who disagree with Dr. Green's research. If bias doesn't exist, I'm not going to include the subject in my book.
Thanks to all.

Great. Another Bush-hater rant. I'm surprised that you haven't posted that the recent bad weather (e.g., hurricanes in FL) are Bush's fault as well.
I also note that you omit President Clinton also received a flu shot given his recent bypass surgery (i.e., he, like Cheney, are at a higher risk).
Congress is almost 50/50 DEM and GOP and hold some of the most important functions in the country. We're talking about 500 people out of a population of 300,000,000 (i.e., totally insignificant). I don't think it's unreasonable that they get shots given the importance of their work. Do they vote to give themselves special privileges? Sure. Sometimes they are reasonable and other times they are not. By and large, most of these people could make a heck of a lot more money in their private lives, but choose to serve the country. You should at least recognize this.
Trying to blame the Bush administration for the contamination of vaccines in GREAT BRITAIN is just foolish. It takes six months to culture the flu vaccine, so if you find out you have contamination in July, you're screwed until January. If you're interested in understanding why we have shortages for flu vaccines, do some homework. It's a business that is high risk and low reward. Before Wyeth Labs got out of the flu vaccine biz, they had lost $50 million in its last year. The United States government has done nothing but make it even harder for the vaccine makers - particularly during the last administration. For example, the FDA required all unused doses to be returned to the manufacturers with money paid back. Given the difficulty in predicting how many doses will be required each flu season, incredibly low profit margins, heavy FDA regulation, and a extremely litigious society - it's no wonder we end up with shortages. We are now left with two major manufacturers of the flu vaccine, and they need to sell over a hundred million doses each year to be profitable.
Just like doctors who no longer can afford to practice (OB-BYNs for example) because of the high costs of malpractive insurance and overly burdensome regulations, we will also have serious problems with certain drugs given the HUGE disincentives to participate in this market.
Another fact: We throw away millions of unused vaccine doses each year. Be patient - manufacturers are working overtime to meet the demand and it's still way too early to cry that the sky is falling.
