Question about 7.5/750
      #194962 - 10/20/04 06:48 AM

By mistake on my last order from NL I ordered 7.5/750 thinking they were 7.5/500 because there was a typo. They were listed as 7.5/50 so I assumed they left off a "0" not the "7", and since I never ordered vicoden es before I did not know that was it's strength. It was my fault for not knowing better, I don't blame NL. But my question is, I have taken 7.5/500 before and I usually take 10/325, I just didn't order those because at the time the price was a little to high and 7.5 works well enough for me. But these 7.5/750 are making me very sleepy and loopy and I never experience that while taking any other hydros. Is that normal-can it be from the increase in APAP, because I don't understand that at all. Any advice or experience you guys have would be great. Thanks!!

Hey There swtangel. Did you order Name Brand or Generic? I usually switch between generic 7.5/500 and 7.5/750. I think the 500 is Lortab and the 750 is Lorcet/Vicodin. IMO the 500 takes a little longer to kick in, but lasts longer (numbs the pain longer). The 750 works quicker, but wear off earlier. That's been my experience. I do like the 750's, though. Are they pink Watsons? I've never felt that big of a difference between them and the 500's. This isn't very thorough, I know, It's just my limited knowledge. I just thought I'd share it and help out any way I could. Hope this helps some.

Hey, thanks for replying, I guess they are generic-that's Watson right? No they are not pink they are white with Watson 387 on them. They do work fast and yes they do wear off faster also, but the groggy loopy feeling stays with me, so I usually don't take another pill even if I am in pain. I have 3 kids to take care of. So I do like that they are good for pain but they are limiting me to do what I need to do in my life whereas that has never been as issue on the other pills (7.5/500, 10/325) I have taken. I just don't get how they can be so different. Thanks for your help.

hi swt...
I've heard that the reason they can be so different it because the more apap in them makes the hydro work differently. Some people will even take tylenol with the ones that have low apap in them (500 or 325).
So for some people, the bigger the 2nd # is, the better they work for them.
I also learned this the hard way! I ordered 7.5/500's thinking it would be better for my liver, but they didn't seem to be as effective as the 750's. So I had to take more of them, which ended p making me sick to my stomach!!
You definatly need the strongest ones with 3 kids to take care of!

Hey pwptds, thank you so much for your post. I can't believe it, but when you said it makes sense I guess. But for some reason, I just always assumed (I know what happens whe you assume) that the more APAP-the less effective the Hydro would be, not the other way around. And yes my kids keep me going, there are no sick/mommy is in too much pain to do ____ days for me. Thanks again!

Very interesting. Like most of us, I have read the lit that says the APAP works "in conjunction" with the hydro to relieve pain. But I always though that was just because you are adding another pain reliever. And the more you add, well, the more pain relief effect (in theory and to a point of course).

But as far as making the hydro itself work better (i.e. the more APAP the more affect, both theraputic and, ahem, "postive side affects") that is an intersting theory. And this isn't the first time I have heard it.

Hmm. More research is needed. I think I may look into this to see if there are any studies or the like on this.

If I find anything worthwhile, I will post.

Or if anyone already knows of any links that discuss this I would be very interested.

I've had the same experience. I ordered Norco (325) once thinking it would be better for my liver, but it didn't seem to be as effective as the lortabs (500) I was used to taking. Maybe the tylenol is a potentiator...?

I have only taken the 10/325's for the same reason about all the posts about the liver. Now I notice that I don't get as much relief as I used to. Do you think if I went up to 10/500 it would provide more pain relief ?
At most places they are the same price so I am tempted to try it since what I am hearing is that it seems to be stronger.

I am in same boat. Next time I order it will be 10/500 not 10/325's anymore
