Going off benzos without an md's care is not only dangerous, but can be deadly. I suggest you get to your docs as soon as possible, if at all possible.

If it's been two weeks, you're most likely past the "danger zone" of having seizures, but still in the zone where you feel crappy. Drink lots of water, eat well, and try to exercise, if you can. Going cold turkey off of benzos can be dangerous, especially if you were taking a very high dosage. One drug that also helps with benzo wd's is Clonidine.

I'm no doctor I just play one on DB. All kidding aside I think your out of the "danger" zone as far as seizures go. However the feeling out of it phase can last for a few more weeks. Everybody's body responds in their own ways so it's hard to say how long till you feel normal. I definitely think the worst is behind you. I wouldn't use valium. Not only is it a benzo, just like klonopin, xanax, etc. it has an extremely long half life. Stay away from the benzo's if possible. Extremely addicting and dangerous to quit. Once again the worst is behind you and good luck.

Cold turkey was stoopid, boo: there's too much info on the boards and on the net about the dangers of cold turkey when it comes to benzos.
Most people get off Xanax and other benzos by replacing their dose with Klonopin. With Xanax it's mg for mg; for things like Valium, no, it's not a good idea to take 10mgs of Klonopin 3 times a day... As an above poster said, Klonopin has a very long half life - that's why you replace other benzos with it. You can taper much easier, you can forget a dose, etc., and there are almost no negative consequences. Instead of going cold turkey, I wish you'd stopped Xanax, continued the Klonopin, and tapered off that. You hardly would have felt anything from doing that (I was taking 3m of Xanax a day, switched to 3mg of Klonopin two weeks ago, and there's been no problem).
How do you feel now, mentally and physically?

Everyone is right, you are probably out of the "danger" zone as far as seizures. I too was stupid enough to try to go alone and stop cold turkey on a very high dose of Ativan. I was actually taking even more than presribed, which is the main reason I did not call my doc for help. It took me 3 days to have the seizure, so I would think you would have had it by now. But as far as all of the other symptoms you are going through, I'm sorry to say-they lasted 2-3 months. But like someone above said you are through the worst. IMO going on another benzo at this point I think would just be a band aid. And then you would still have to get off of that. But again that is JMO. Good luck and if you want to talk anytime about what this feels like please PM me. I know it feels like h*ll!

Withdrawl for 3 months?
Of those that have gone off a Benzo by tappering, I've heard a good tappering schedule is to reduce dosage by 1/4th each week. So if you were at 4mg a day, next week 3mg a day, next week, 2mg a day, next week 1mg a day, so it takes 4 weeks to get off it. I would expect there would be possibly mild withdrawl symptoms as you decrease and then a week or so after not taking at all, especially the psychological withdrawl.
Of those that have done it, what was there situation and how well did their tapper schedule work?

I have periodically gone off Valium during the last 10 years of taking it for lousy nerves and muscular tension. I really don't "suffer" physical withdrawal - just psychological - as I tend to worry that if something really bad goes down and I don't have any I will totally fall apart.
I used to have a physician that regularly wrote me scripts for it - he retired and no where no way can I find anyone who has the u know whats to write benzo Rx's in my area. Government must like it's citizens uptight and nervous wrecks..........Thank God for IOP's - and one in particular!
