Can anyone recommend a nice "cocktail" that can keep you ambulatory for about 5 or 6 hours if you come down with this nasty flu that's bound to be rampant this year because of the vaccine shortages?
I would stay in my office, and have my wife work in the store, so I wouldn't be spreading it. I was thinking of something with hydrocodone, decongestant, and lots of fluids. Anyone have any luck with this. I wouldn't want to mix analgesics, of course.

If I were you, I'd ask a doctor that question. They might have some tricks to keep you on your feet long enough to get through a work day.
Peace,

I wouldn't recommend working at all. Especially if you work in a store because all you will be doing is spreading it to all you customers. There is no "cocktail" that will work to make you feel better with the flu. There are a couple of anti-viral medications that can shorten the duration and severity of the flu but unless you are in a high risk category (under 2, over 65 or immunocompromised) I would bet the docs are going to hold onto these prescriptions.
You could get FluMist. Its not available quite yet but it protects against two types of the virus (A and B). It is similar to the vaccine that is in such shortage except it is a live attenuated vaccine and should not be used in the high risk population or if you are living with anyone in that high risk category.
Please, I am in the health care field, if you get the flu DON'T go to work. To try and prevent getting the flu, wash your hands often and try to stay away from anyone who has it. Also, some swear by taking zinc when the symptoms start. This may or may not work.

Just make sure you all do as our wise president says and not get a flu shot unless you need it!

I'm pretty upset because I was allowed to take a flu shot last week. I have a kidney disease that my doctor said put me in the higher risk category. So anyway, I came down with this horrible cold, which I can only describe as incredibly flu-like, and they wouldn't let me get the shot. I understand why, but they also could not hold it for me. I'm so bummed. Last year I got my flu shot and still was sick for 75% of the winter. I think I'll probably be one of those influenza casualities this year. I know, shouldn't joke, but I sure do wish I could get a shot. My kids bring home EVERYTHING! And the weir, but wonderful, thing is that they are only sick for maximum 3 days, and then fine. This flu-like cold I caught, I'm finally starting to beat it, two weeks later. Anyway, sorry to ramble. Hope everyone stays as healthy as possible this winter.
