Which states have doctors willing togive pain meds
      #192993 - 10/11/04 09:36 PM

Texas sems to be middle of the road in this area. But some states seem to be full of doctors who are unwilling to write anything but tylenol unless you have cancer.

Are there any particularly good states that seem to have sympathetic doctors?

I would also be interested in hearing from people that live in states that have a hard time getting proper medication.

I plan to move in two years and if I stay in this country, I would only consider moving to an enlightened state.

I know in KY they are scared to death to write scripts for anything anyone on here would need. You have to really have soemthing bad to get anything. The only ppl I know in my area with scritps for hydro/xanax ect. have HEP C or cancer or soemthing hardcore.

Montana, has a very good Pain Clinic. You don't need a refferal and they will give you almost anything.

in my opinoin they get 720.00$ for 5 min. and you leave very pissed off. sry just so fing upset with my medical nontreatment.

Kimbell,

I know a great pain management group in dallas. I can also tell you how to get the referral. They moved my wife from hydro 7.5 to oxy's on the first visit and gave hydro 10 for short term break thru pain. They always spend at least 30 minutes just hearing about her life and she feels very comfortable there.
PM me if you are in the area, and I will forward you more info.
Saint

There are PLENTY of docs in NY (NY metro)that have no problem writing for pain meds (or anxiety/sleep meds) if your condition warrants it

I figured that NYC or LA would be most liberal [Re: Steve623]

Thaks for the post.

I love NYC but unfortunately, it is too expensive for me. I would move there if I had the money to enjoy the city and live in a decent place.

I also love LA and I have been thinking of checking out a small town east of LA called CORVINA. It actually costs about the same as where I live if the date on city and state comparisons are accurate. Anyone know if those comparisons are accurate? Or does anyone know if Corvina, California is as expensive as LA? Or what it is like.

If I can make another trip to LA, I want to check out this town-it was where the series 'Roswell' was filmed and looks like a nice town. Plus it is close to LA without maybe the LA prices.

PM if you want.

Michigan....

My experiences
ER will give 20 - 30 qty of hydro typical 7.5 for moderate pain problem sometimes 500s. I only recieved 10s once near the holidays

HMO Clinic most wont perscribe anything no matter what
however I have had 10s once from a clinic.

PPO private doctors I have recieved as high as 250qty 7.5 over 325 one month supply and from a different ppo doc I get 100 7.5 per month (not at same time)

I havnt bothered to use local doctors for other problems or stronger meds seems like to much work if I prefer something else or stronger I feel they give me alot now.

Xanax seems by far the hardest to get with doctors I have seen all of them want you to take zoloft or paxil which I have and am but than again I guess its safe.

by the way those 7.5/325 were the hardest to find from pharmacies sheesh also filling that amount was a joke but when it was filled holly Best if kept off the board thats alot! one time thing

I told one doctor I am refusing her service and for her not to bill me. I was mad I told her if I had to wait in the waiting room for two hours and bad pain and 30 days agin a doctor here rx me 30 10s there should be some sort of level doctors keep in one facility. She did end up offering rx but I refused I said its not worth it cause I would end up going ssomewhere else. She even made the comment prior that she has to be carful prescribing such meds cause she doesnt know whos a junkie ...Junkie! WTf look at my blood pressure that should be proof positive of the pain I was in anyway no more hmos or clinics for me ppo priv doctors or online.

There are many doctors in the state in which I live that are willing to prescribe very strong pain meds. My new doctor prescribed fentanyl on my first visit with him, but I did have all of my medical records with me. I also know numerous people who are taking oxycontin and there are even a few dentists here who will prescribe morphine. The doctors here hand out pain meds like they are candy.

What about Oklahoma? So far, I have encountered nothing but doctors who want to try so many different 'alternative' drugs that are super expensive and just don't work...BUT, they are non-narcotic so the doctors are okay prescribing them. I have all the paperwork detailing my prior accident, as well as the existing pain and migraines. It's very frustrating sometimes to spend so much money to feel better when no one is willing to help.

Thanks!
