I just did a search and found several, some for Vicodin, Dilaudid, MS Contin, OxyContin, Norco. I guess some people are buying them so they have a bottle to keep drugs in that didn't come with a prescription. Even if you actually have a script but don't have your meds in the bottle you can be in serious trouble. That would be my guess for the reason to buy and sell empty bottles.
Well looking they aren't even bottles that have been prescribed....it's not like they are old apothecary bottles so I don't know why they would be 'collectible'.....not sure about why people would buy this.

Don't fall for the 'maybe there's meds in it thing' - there are NOT. It is actual, empty bottles of pain meds that I honestly don't know why anyone would want. Yes maybe to keep meds in, but I have plenty of those from real prescriptions in my own name. People are bidding this kind of money because they are thinking the same thing the original poster is thinking (and probably what the seller is intending on people 'maybe considering') - I have seen that and it is so ridiculous that people are so easily fooled as to pay $200 for an empty bottle of meds (with someone else's name on it) - I am on another board where someone bought one of them just to try to find out what was going on - they didn't pay anywhere near $200 more like 50 though, but it was indeed a med bottle, and indeed EMPTY. Truse me...... But if you want to fantasize, go ahead and bid. $200 is a lot for a piece of plastic.

Maybe I missed something but I don't think anyone here thought they had meds in them....

definitlty another plus for research before buying

Well they were in the pharmacy collectibles area. There also were some old brown glass medication bottles for sell. I understand some wanting that kind of stuff. There is a pharmacist here that has an area in his store with the old apothecary setup, but these bottles aren't old.... All the descriptions were very, very clear they were empty...one of them had OC and Viagra and said they were for 'gag gifts'.

The only reason I said that (about 'dont assume there may be meds in them) - is because from the tone of the original post, I gathered that the poster was thinking there was something more to it, than just an empty med bottle. Maybe I was wrong, if so - sorry for the misconception.

Just responding to last post - headache today...
I think people might think they are collectable because they will make oxycontin illegal - so they will show their kids - look guys, we used to have docs give us this for pain....
kind of like people talk about Coke (coca-cola) having actual cocaine in it at one time...
i know this is fuzzy, sorry..

Oh I looked and they had bottles for all kinds of pain meds, not just OC. Something that was strange, one person that bid $200 for the 5 mg hydro had bought another bottle from the same person for $50 for 7.5 mg hydro bottle. That is just odd....

hanna yep I think that in oh say 100 years (after people have found less barbaric drugs than hydro , people will pay a lot to see the real bottle used by a real person, or not real person (but they got it from a real hydro-pill-taking person that was on ebay). Like an old bottle of dried up opium, or just empty bottle, from 19th Century
and things even earlier in the history of pain control.
I've got some old empty bottles I got from Elvis; he had some kind of dope in there; got lotus container from king tut; amphetimine bottles from Hitler; guess I'll put it on ebay lol just kidding hah
I always destroy my labels when throwing away or recycling bottles, most of them. Of course I keep some. What if I sold say a bottle of methadone, with my name on it -an empty bottle- then somebody gets it and puts some methadone in it and leaves it at a crime scene?

Yea, Master, when I throw away my empty prescription bottles, I take a black magic marker and blot out all info. I am NOT a paranoid person, just very private, but these things are taken to the town dump for pete's sake!
First off, I don't want the trashmen knowing what meds I take, and I most certainly don't want anybody combing the town dump looking for old bottles which they can take into a pharmacy and ask for a refill or even call the Dr. and ask for a refill if it's a Schedule III.
Maybe those pill bottles they sell once belonged to a celebrity and are still labeled or once contained a notorious product such as thalidomide or Quaaludes w/the original labels. Maybe there's a market out there for this type of stuff. Who knows? Now my imagination is running wild-maybe a woman would buy them to "plant" in her ex-husband's home when the child custody evaluator comes over....ha ha ha ha.
Oh, yea, did you see they sell used enema bags on e-bay?

My son will say to his grandchildren, look here kiddies... they gave my mom opiates with APAP, and the children will say -
APAP! Is that what Great-Grandmammy died from?! I don't believe it, show us the bottle again Poppy, let us touch it, is it dangerous to touch?!
I never have thrown out a bottle from an OP yet, I'm starting quite a little collection. I worried about putting them in the garbage. Doh! I guess I could just take off the label huh?
See, I have a headache so much of the time that I cannot function like a normal person... It's all I can do to keep things up and running around the house and kids...

But these bottles are brand new with experations of 2004! They make note to advertise the expire date!
I have many emails out to people asking some questions...so far, no one answered. I even asked the buyers if they were scammed!
Well maybe...we need to ask our local pharmacies to keep empty bottles for us??? These are stock bottles with no script on them!
These OP's could be starting new side jobs with their empty bottles.

People buy these bottles, fill them with fakes, and sell the pills on the street for $5 or $10 per pill. Much easier to fool recreational users if you have the "pills" in a perscription bottle.

wow...I wanted to post about this months ago. This has been going on with eBay for quite a while. It seems there are genuine pharmacy bottle collectors but....about 3 months ago there were 2 or 3 sellers using very deceptive wording to make you think there might be meds in the bottles. When you see a "buy it now" price of $75-200 on an empty bottle you gotta wonder right? At least one seller was suspended from eBay for actually selling meds in the bottle. The feedback said "all I wanted was the bottle...this man is a drug dealer".I am sure eBay went on to a higher authority with that case!I would have to be a little leery of letting so many people on eBay know that I had such meds and where I live if they won the auction. So many house invasion robberies involving oxy and related meds nowadays!
On a related note it seems there are even some sellers on eBay selling the type of information we get on this message board. The typical charge is $10-30 for the websites and emails for OPs,foreign pharmacies etc. Now talk about bringing negative attention to an OP!~

Very good point! I have been seeing "CD" for sale for years on ebay about online OP's. I even went so far as to buy one but I finally found this wonderful site! It does add some wonders when you see this info on "cd". Thanks everyone!
One must have to wonder if there are pills in those bottles at 202.50 per bottle! I am glad to see that you wondered as well!
This just adds to my point that people are out to rob us pain suffers! They think we are drug seekers but in a negative way.
Thanks everyone for answering!
P.S. I never did hear from anyone! Yeah, they want us to believe there is somehting in these bottles. Rest my soul if I am ever that desperate!

I'm obviously a little behind with this response, but I have to say it...THIS IS THE CRAZIEST THING I HAVE EVER HEARD OF!!!! I hate to admit it, but I am an ebay addict but I have never seen this...but I think I will check it out right now. I just can't help myself! (But no, I won't be bidding...)

Hmmmmm...I suspect a bit more went on there; maybe during the pre-buy email frenzy? Once on eBay I bid on a chunk of land in Utah near the North Rim. The seller instructed me to simply get a cashier's check for just under 10K and mail it to a post office box.
I sure would appreciate your sending me that link, and thank you in advance. I'll keep you posted if I get into it with the seller of nothing; perhaps the buyer is a student of Zen who seeks emptiness the old-fashioned way - he buys it!

You know, come to think of it, I have several prescription bottles that are empty, including Hydro, codiene, xanex, steriods, and even amphetemines. I wonder ....... If I can get 75-$200 per bottle, my meds problems would be over! LOL! LOL! I'd be able to afford insurance for awhile again!

If we took all of the member's old RX bottles and sold them on e-bay for $200, we could buy our own pharmacy that sells real medication

yes to the bottles being used for fakes !!!, trust me i know people who buy that stuff, and the ones on ebay are there to sell to asses who like to use email sources and lookalike pills to screw people .. also they bring hi dollar for the real print and better type of drug type listed.. I wish there was a real side source, but there are to many narcs for a good person to help someone on the side so that leaves scammers to sell fakes whih they probebly wont get any trouble for!! thanks for your time fellow mem..

eBay is EVIL!!! LOL. I maxed out all of my CC's a few months ago buying a bunch of junk that I definitely did not need and have no use for. I did run into the "empty" script bottles on there and had to wonder what the heck was going on, because people were paying outrageous amounts of money bidding on them. It would make sense if someone really was just biddding on them to try to scam someone else with fakes, but why pay so much? Ridiculous, if you ask me, but JMO.

They are selling bottles liek from the manufacturer or whatever. THE BIG BULK BOTTLES . not ppl's personal little bottles . if they do sell smaller hydro bottles it's still usually one straight from the manufacturer, not like we can all start taking our regular bottles with just our label form pharmacy and ppl wanna buy it. But i havnt been on ebay lately maybe soemone is selling their little personal empty bottle with their name and RX # and info on it but I just dont think so. alot of ppl buy them as collectors items just liek ppl collect drug rep pens etc. Having a HYDROCODONE 500 count bulk empty bottle wouldnt help you if you wanted to put yer tabs in them and claim they legit or anything. I have a MARINOL desk caddy infront of me right now and use a MARINOL ink pen for all my paperwork. HYDRO, LORTAB etc. has become a big brand name basicaly just liek ppl collecting COKE, or PEPSI stuff. Alot of pharmacists and doctors and drug reps sale LORTAB posters and pens and stuff on ebay all day. I really honestly cant believe anyone would buy a lortab bottle thinking there's gonan be anything in it. THey woudl most likely be too retarted to use the internet if they woudl think someone woudl auction bottle of hydros on ebay.
liek I have stated b4 i live in a college town. EVERY frat house in town has a big LORTAB poster soemwhere or a BIG BULK 500 count empty lortab bottle soemwhere. they think it's cool and hip.
just my opinion
