I dont have insurance so I am assuming I am straight SOL on this. But how much on average does an MRI cost ? I have x-rays showing my back's condition but have been suggested I need an MRI done among a few other things. I was hit by a truck when I was 7 (now 24) and my back just gets worse lately and I sit down my arms and hands go numb . Any feedback greatly appreciated
DO I also need an EMG? am I spelling it correctly? what is teh differecne between EMG and MRI

If I were you, and I don't have ins. either, but I would go to the ER and complain about the severe pain you have in your back an dhow things go numb and stuff. Tell them you have had x-rays. Ask if they can get you a neuro Dr. and that Dr. will more than likely order an MRI. Hospitals can't turn you away, and you can arrange to make payments to them. I have done it many times. But you DO need to get something done, cause what you describe can be a very serious condition.....Good Luck....

I don't have insurance and i've had 2 mri's done. The first one was a discounted price of 350 dollars, the second was a discounted price of 600 dollars. I'm still paying off the second one. If you have a doctor they can call around and find places that will give a discount for people that don't have insurance. My second mri we had quotes from 1800 to 600 dollars. I really wanted to go back to the first place but they closed down for some reason.
I was also sent to the er by my doctor that did the second mri to see if they would do it. They told me at the er the only way they would do an mri was if i was brought in by ambulance, not sure if it's like that everywhere though. Good luck on finding a place that will do it cheap. It just takes the dr's office calling around to find one. Take care.

I had an MRI June of this year. I'm lucky I guess because I have ins so it cost me zero. They charged my ins $1200.00 but accepted $400.00 as total payment don't be afraid to ask for a reduced price , Sometimes lower income can get you a lower price. And then there are groups like Masons that help people.I think I spelled it wrong, but good luck.

I just got off phone with local place that helps working poors like me. they said they can set me up with pain clinic at a reduced price ect. I am going Tuesday hopefully all goes well & maybe I can start to get 1 on 1 FACE 2 FACE care and not feel like I am doing soemhting illegal recieving hydro off internet. I just keep waiting for the DEA to show up or soemthing but then again I have anxiety ect. already so that's prolly a factor in me wanting to aquire my hydro localy, that and if I ever run out my local pharmacist will help me out.

I just had two MRI's done in the past 4 months. They both cost me 400.00. I don't have insurance and had to pay cash.
Just because these places charge 1500.00 to someones insurance company, don't think that green doesn't talk. It does.
Bottom line? They have that machine sitting there and if it's not making money then it's not making money.
Call around. I think you will be pleasantly surprised (maybe not with the results if your back is like mine, but at least with the price!)
Good luck.

yeah I am weary of goign to ER they charge you out the arse. I cant afford anymore major bills to be paying off. some places have after hours primary care that is just as good as ER if it is not life threatening and cheaper

My orthopedic surgeon gave me a lead to a MRI clinic that charged me $650 cash price plus they came and picked me up and brought me back home again! Necessary as my back pain wouldn't allow me to drive at that time...Also, ask right away for a copy of your MRI results (a printed report) to be sent to you as well as the doctor. That way, if needed in the future, you will have it in case you need medical records to fax in to a Records OP. That is, if your relationship with the Pain Clinic doesn't work out to your satisifaction. CYA!Good Luck!
