Sorry - I have to say the 'K' cut out is the only way to go. I have tried the generic and it doesn't work the same for me. I tend to have worse side effects .
As to diazapam generic and valium brand the only difference I notice is strengnth. The actual 'v' cutout is a lil more effective. But with any other meds generic seem to work just fine. I do have an issue with the Kloni generic.
Good luck I know it doesn't help much but if the option is there take the BRAND.. My insurance only covered generic so I switched medications completely.

I used to be on klonopin and one time at my parents house during christmas holiday I took it and could not remember dinner or opening presents. My brother said I looked like I was about half asleep, but I was under soo much stess I had to take it. I guess it is best not to take it during the day huh? By they way which one works better Klonopin or Zanax?

10mg Clonazepam works for me,though I only take it at night for fibromyagia. I guess it depends on what you are using it for. afalcons

Wow, was that a typo or did you really mean 10mg of clonazepam? I know my tolerance is messed up but even I take only 2-4 mg of clonazepam and get plenty of relief. 10 mg of clonazepam and i'd be pretty goofy, then asleep on the table a few hours later. According to many charts 1mg of klonipin is equal to 1 mg of xanax, so that's not a small dose by any means. If you do take 10mg each night, I really really really really feel for you when/if you ever decide to try to stop. I thougth tapering off 4mg per day was a ride with satan...

This statement only shows the poster's acute lack of experience with prescription medication. Even when a doctor prescribes a benzodiazepine for treatment, he/she will check the "generic OK" box on the prescription pad.

Most of the time your prescription wil be filled with a MUCH cheaper generic, and will work JUST AS EFFECTIVELY as the name brand. Please keep in mind people, you are getting the same chemical compound with a generic as with the brand name, only cheaper.

As for the person taking 10mg/day....... WOW!!!

Good luck ever trying to ever trying to kick that dosage. A prescription for that ammount from a recognized physician/phychiatrist is VERY unusual. I hope you are misinformed.

Hey, diggs.

This time I agree with you on both counts.

This argument has sufaced before and I though, besides personal preferances we put it to bed. In the U.S. especially, the FDA ensures that generics are no different than the brand name. IT IS ALL IN YOUR MIND.

And speaking as someone, who had what I consider a bad Klonopin addition (compounded by depression), Klonopin withdrawl was by far the worst experience in my life. And I was only using at peak 4 - 6 mg a day.

Benzo's are great, but long term daily use will cause addiction and tolerance as great as alcohol, to which they are closely related and is also why you MUST not just stop taking benzo's if you have been taking them for a long time.

Benzo withdrawl has been compared to heroin withdrawl in its physical symptoms. I have never been addicted to heroin, but from Trtainspotting and the like, I can say it was different but not in a good way.

Me, I took a two week vaction and bascically chain smoked and hid in my apartment with the usual flue like symtoms and unbeliveable anxiety, the worst I ever had in my life multiplied by ten. I had a panic attact in the supermarket holding a head of lettuce, thinking eveyone was looking at me knowing I was a reciovering addict. I had the shakes so bad on the way back I could barely drive. Horrible. And this was doctor prescribed or misprescribed is more like it.

The only thing that kept me from doing it and succeeding in my first attempt to quit was I was just so sick of them; by the time of withdrawl I had felt worse than before I started using them. And I even stuck to the dosing regime 100% thoughout the "treatment." I felt like suing my physciatrist for getting me addicted to it.

Which is also why, I disagree strongly with anyone that says that any bezo is good for long term anxiety treatment. Tolerance and addiction is all but guaranteed. And the addiction in itself (how many of us are addicted to coffee; I think addiction, is almost always used ina negative way while addiction is simply the brain doing its job, but that is another story) wouldn't be so bad were it not for the tolerance and how quickly it developed (I can believe that someone could do 10mg a day).

I know others argue it, but for me Paxil was the lifsafer. I have never slept so well in my life, was never able to focus as well as I can now, am avle to sit through meetings without worrying if I am doing something wrong, etc.

My regular doctor recommended it after he saw what Klonopin had done to me and I have been thankfull even since.

I agree completely and empathically with all you mentioned including the caveats about using them on a continuous basis.

I have been prescribed benzos for about 13 years now, the last at least 6 years of which my prescription was for the equivalent of 80 mg. valium per day. I never took the full amount but did take a good 3/4 of it for awhile before realizing that I was totally dependent on this one doctor to prescribe them to me and that doctor dependency bothered me more than the physiological dependency did: I always had trouble finding doctors who would prescribe that high a dose and I had concerns about what would happen when he retired, moved, died, etc. so I decided to taper myself down and was successful getting down to the equivalent of 5 mg. with really neglible wd's as I tapered very slowly in terms of both amount and time (I took about a year) and now I've been staying in the 5-10 mg. range with no problems but when I try to taper below 5 that's when I feel it-going down from 60 to 5 was really nothing but this very last bit is so hellish that I have conceded to simply stay on it for life. It is a high potency benzo tho so I'm sure switching to a lower potency one with a longer half-life would help get me lower-maybe even off completey. Trying to chip a tiny little piece of pill to try to get .1 mg. by guessing just doesn't work.
