Female Question
      #190801 - 10/04/04 05:08 PM

Hello all....I have but yet another health question. Even though I have about 9 yrs health care exp. somethings still puzzle me. I'm just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on what I should do or if someone has gone through the same thing and might know more about what is going on.

Thurs. I woke up around 5:30am with strange abd pain. I took some percocett and went back to bed and was ok throughout the rest of the day. Later that evening right after eating dinner I was in excruciating pain! My first thought was my gallbladder since most gallbladder attacks are after eating and it was in about that area. After speaking to my mother who had hers removed years ago I decided to go into the ER. After about 8 hours of being poked and prodded they found some fluid in my uterus which was probably another cyst that ruptured. I had a cyst about 3-4 months ago that was full of blood and that one ruptured. The thing is, ever since that day my legs, feet and ankles have been like balloons! My legs are worse now. When I push on the front on my shin bone with the thumb, a hole stays in my leg for a min. Sometimes when I walk I get shooting pains up into my inner thighs. Even when I wake up sometimes I am swollen, if not it only takes a couple of minutes of being up for them to blow back up.

I called my new OBGYN this morning and of course I have to have a referral from my Dr. to go there. I called my Dr.'s office this morning and of course didn't hear anything back all day. The OB office said they would call me as soon as they got the fax. It's just kinda scary to me b/c I've never really had this problem with the swelling and stuff before. I am still having some abd pain/cramping too. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions please let me know. I would appreciate any feed back. Thank you all in advance!

DailyPain, I don't want to scare you, but, I think you need to either get into a Dr. or the ER. cause it could be a blood clot somewhere in your artery in your abdoman or something. It would be better to be safe than sorry. And if you can push your finger on your leg and the dent stays there, that is not too good. That is way swollen. But if you can't get in right away, I would stay laying down, so as to not put pressure on your legs in case that Is what it is, and it moves to your chest or something. This is just what I think. I am not a DR. but I Have worked in medical for a very long tome. Good Luck...............

Um, okay, want to be calm, but suffer prettymuch alot from diverticulitis, endo, cysts, uterus probs, and....VEHEMENTLY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS. GO, GO. GO! Are you worried about med intake recently...understand....drink water I guess, but would you rather not die, cause you won't you know, just be more disabled, and then deal with the system, Ask advice here as to what to say and then, GO!

Thank you all for your responses. About the blood clot, I've wondered because I looked online a little about being swollen and it talked about the heart. I just think I have been way too swollen too long. Like I said, I've never experienced this before so I'm kinda worried. I've cut down on the soda and drinking more water since this has happened. I just know something is wrong though. I get tired more easily than usual. I will do something tomorrow for sure! If I can't get in to the OBGYN I will go to the ER. Thanks again guys!

Well, I ended up going back to the ER because none of the Dr.'s office's ever called me back and I was worried and really uncomfortable. I ended up having ANOTHER ovarian cyst and edema. He just sent me home with some ultam and told me to follow up with my OB. They said it's more than likely a hormonal balance and that's why I am getting them so much. She said that the OB would probably put me on some birth control which I will not take because for one, my b/f and I have been trying to get pregnant. I really have a feeling it may not happen for me anymore. I already have a son and a daughter from a previous relationship but my current b/f does not have any children and we plan on getting married. And the other reason is, it's totally screws up my system and I get all out of wack with the periods Right now I know when I'm going to start, when I'm going to end, when I'm going to ovulate and when I'm going to start again and I like that!

But, I really appreciate all your help in this matter. I was scared because of the swelling, I had never had this problem before. I have a history of heart disease in my family and when I had looked it upm it kept leading to things about your heart. I just need to get in touch with my OB and go from there I guess. I've already had 2 laparoscopies in the past. The first time I was in pain for 3 yrs before I finally found a good OB and he said first thing, we needed to do a lap. He found that my uterus was attached to my stomach. The second time was about 7 months later and I started having pains again so he said he would do it again. This time my bowel was attached to something in there. He said he put some kind of gel like substance in there to try to keep anymore things from sticking together but it's all catch 22 when you have more and more surgeries.

Thanks again everyone and I will keep you updated if anything else exciting happens! Have a great pain free day everyone

Also, I forgot to ask the other day, but are you taking anykind of pain meds? Because besides being a cyst again, if you are taking a lot of codeine, it will make you swollen, and you Don't have to be allergic to react to it that way,. I'm not, and I had legs and toes that looked like sticks, but it was cause I was taking too much codeine. That is when you could get contugesic real easy, and instead of just letting them do what they were meant to do,(work continuosly), I chewed them and had too much in my system. I hope you get taken care of by a Good Dr......Good Luck...............

Hi..I was just reading about your problem and it sounds like something similar that happened to my mother a couple of months ago. Have you went to the Dr. or the ER yet?
I took my mom to the ER and they couldn't find anything wrong, and sent her home after 6 hours of tests! She has a follow up with her OB today...so I hope they find something.
Anyway, I Would be interested in finding out what your Dr. says.
Good Luck whatever it is

Have you ever tried any "alternative" therapy? I'm a certified reflexologist and have treated people with similar conditions. If it's possible go to a reflexologist, or massage therapist in your area for a consult. I know a few thing right off the bat that I would use on you from your description. Lymphatic drainage being one. ALSO... I used to have a LOT of female problems. All the while growing up I sort of resented being a girl/woman. When I came to grips with my woman hood many of my problems went away. Coincidence? Certainly could be, but I just wonder if you, too, were a tom boy type.
There's also alternative treatment for fertility that I've used on my clients. They're now mothers. Coincidence? Could be. But I firmly beleive in a higher power that will help us help each other with the most minor things such as the power of touch, smell, and hope or prayer, if you will.
I'm not a tree hugging, patchouli wearing, non leg shaving hippie chick. I just know that everything we need to heal ourselves has been given to us by the "thing" that put us here.

Thanks to all that responded. They had found another cyst on my ovary and diagnosed me with edema. The swelling is actually gone now!
I was however in bed all day not feeling well. I hate cysts! I just got rid of one! I think the only prevention for them is birth control which I REALLY don't want to do. I think I stated that in my last post . I can't remember, I've slept since then, lol.

Pwptds, you will have to let me know what happened with your mother. I sure hope she's going to be ok. Please keep me posted. The first night I went to the ER, I spent over 8 hours there and was sent home with "unknown pelvic pain". When I went back a couple of days later, still in pain...that's when they found the cyst. Let me know what happens with your mother though. I will pray for you and your mother.

I see my new OB on Wed. and when I spoke to the lady who scheduled me, I was telling her how awful my Dr.'s office is and that they will not return any of my calls; she promised that they would take very good care of me so we'll see. I hope that is the case. No one likes going to Dr.'s that don't care.

I will keep you all posted on what happens next. Thanks again to everyone for their ideas, suggestions and stories. I really appreciate everyone here!

Hoping you all have pain free days!
