I can't believe that I actually found a nice doctor through my HMO. He was so understanding and spent a lot of time with me today. He is not crazy about Xanax, but is not refusing to prescribe it to me. He wants to taper me off it eventually, but not right now when my stress level is so high. I just had to share.

Well it's refreshing to hear about a doctor being even semi-compassionate and I know what a great feeling it is to leave a doctor actually feeling good about it/them . I'm glad you found one of that rare breed and hope he at least remains willing to rx you whatever you know works for you. Good luck with him and if he should change you'll know there are others out there to look for and switch to.

It's nice that you found someone that is willing to work with you. I have noticed in the past that if you call around and ask if the clinics have doctors that are willing to prescribe certain drugs that you need before you go it saves you time in the long run .

really? im always afraid ill be labeled as an addict or red flaged if I did something like that. But this is what you have to put up with when you suffer from severe chronic pain. Maybe its me, but sometimes I even feel like the people at the drug store give me looks sometimes because Im (relativly) young.

I know exactly how you feel. Everytime I hand over the script for oxy, I get a look like I am an evil drug junkie. I get treated like a crimminal from some pharmacists and sometimes they are too scared too fill it so they come up with some lame excuses. This has happened to me two times. To get back to the origional post, congrats on finding a good doctor that uses meds as they were designed for. When my doc. went on vacation, I ran out of my oxy's and had to go through 3 different doctors at the same clinic before one would even see me, and it was quite a feat to get 4 oxy's even though the doc. had my chart in hand.
Sorry to be such a downer when this post was supposed to be a happy one. just in a bad mood right now, but you guys will cheer me up. thanks, pete.

Don't feel like an evil junkie. Please. Take this little suggestion for what it is worth to you - and to all the others on this board.
Get a metal cane. $12-13.
Yes, you will get fewer questions, more respect, and maybe a little courtesy. It may even double as a weapon - God forbid. A metal cane. Uh-huh.

I guess I was spoiled had a good dr that progresses me through cod. vic. perc and OC before 1st surgery.
The changed to a new one after he retired and of all things was hassled over VALLIUM for muscle spasms!
I have the same problem at ER trying to refill get Ritilan (for Narcolepsy) They look at the bottles see Schedule II(like OXY) and will not refill - Even if I tell the I spent 4 days in ICU and went blind when I ran out last time!
They will however throw NORCOS and Vals at me to shut me up - with me saying IDON'T NEED THEM!
A good dr will spoil you - mine lost his licence because a 20 year patient called up with a sprained wrist and he called in a T3 codein order for her.

Thats been my experience anyhow, and it only makes sense if you think about it. I just explained to them that I was on this before & it works. Then ask if there was any Dr. in house that would be willing to prescribe it if it was needed. If the answer is no then it is pointless to go there.
Good luck!
