Librium
      #189761 - 09/30/04 11:37 AM

Hi. I have never started a new thread but have been around for a while now and have participated when I feel that I have something to add or ask.....That being said, I have a couple questions regarding librium. I have used other benzodiazapines (Valium, Xanax, Ativan) for short periods of time with good response and little to no side effects. I have recently been prescribed librium and would like to use this drug to help taper off of some fairly heavy duty opiates I have been taking for a few months now but are no longer necessary. (Pain issue has been resolved due to latest surgery....Thank God) but has left me with a bit of a physical, and even more so, mental depenency on these painkillers. I have done this before a few years ago but I was inpatient rehab and ther is NO way I can swing that at this time nor do I feel it is necessary since it has not benn an ongoing thing for years like last time. I do know that it won't be easy ans ANY information on this drug i.e. starting dose to help with w/drawl symtoms, tapering plan, experiences, anything....would be very helpful and much appreciated.

Hi, me again. Just wanted to bump this up a bit. Please, somebody has to have some experiance with this drug. For instance, how many mgs would be the equivilent of say 10mgs valium or 1mg xanax? Anyone? Anything?

Oh man, I must have erased this: 25mg of Librium is about 10mg of Valium. Some say this is 0.25mg of Xanax, but the metabolisms and tolerances of these drugs are so different...

I've taken both Valium and Librium. Widely avaialble info on the net says 25mg to 10mg Valium. I'd say that is conservative. 30mg is about right and a bit easier to calculate. Librium is very weak compared to all other Benzos.

Thanks to both of you!!! Now at least I have an idea of what to start with. The pills (librium) I have are very low dose but I think I have plenty of them to at least get me through the worst of it. Thanks again.
