Valium Onset & Duration
      #189209 - 09/28/04 01:40 PM

Just receive some generic valium Lupin in India. I'm trying to find the right med for flight anxiety. I took 20mg off the bat. Boy did I feel the onset much more than taking 3.5mg of Ativan. Seem to peak about 1-hr after taking it but felt the effect in as little as 30 min. However, 2-hr after taking it I hardly feel it, or maybe I'm more used to it. Is that the typical pattern of Valium? A fast onset with a elatively quick peak at about an hour, then a significant drop over the next hour with a slow gradual offset? With the half life on this stuff being so long, I expected the peak clinical effects to last more than an hour at best?

To follow-up, I spoke with a doctor who said that although Valium has a much longer half life than Ativan, Ativan stays active in the brain longer where Valium leaves the brain quicker and goes into the fat cells.
