Wow...motherlode. Goodbye OPs
      #185754 - 09/09/04 02:49 PM

Found a physician's assitant here in Texas. Walked in with no records, told her I had my own business lifting heavy equipment and was waking up with sciatica down the left leg with spasms in the thoracic disk area every day. 7 minutes later I walked out with an MD signed prescription for #240 10/325, #90 Soma, both with four monthly refills and a ton of professional Celebrex and Viagra samples! Total cost with insurance? $30 for the exam and first fill. You can bet I'm gonna ride that train all the way to the last depot...yee haw!!

And I thought I was going to have to move to Afganistan.
Guess it'll be Texas instead.

That was for giggles...not out of, er, true need . And no, I was not being sarcastic. I actually found the pain relief I needed. And from a family practice no less! Keep looking and asking around...the help you need is out there!

I'm certain there is no need for the Viagra samples, but there maybe after you whack down 8 of them norco's on a daily basis, at least that's the experience i've had with hydro...and whatchya mean by a "family practice"...¿¿¿

The physician is a certified family practitioner. I think he does about 40% free work for the poor, thereby escaping alot of DEA scrutiny 9 (is my bet).

By the way, I don't "slam" 8 norcs a day. I didn't ask for #240, that's just what they gave me.

Thanks all...I've been in brutal pain for 4 years now and going the OP route. You just gotta keep trying and networking. If an ortho doc tries to fix your inoperable condition with prednisone and NSAIDS, tell him or her they are fired, move on, and develop your network. I've been sitting on this name for a year because I never thought it could possibly work out as well as it did for the guy that referred me. As it turns out, he is jealous!

thats not fair i have been to countless doctor and specialists that have no clue why my hip pops out at will and on its own it causes severe back pain, by sewvere i mean it drops me to the floor and i can't barley walk for a few days and not one doc or ortho would consider any narcodic they are very inconsiderate and just quick to send me home without even aexaming me cause they don't know what causes this. i have spent over 3,000$ doctor bills with no answers or scripts that even damper the pain i have
think i'm in the wrong state. every doc doesn't even consider narcotics and the last one i saw said that soma was like the worst thing, addictive and some other stuff but i quit listening to him after i heard that. have been dealing with this pain for about 8 years think its some genetic thing. but it has gotten very severe in the last year and i just got insurance recently. i am so tired of wastimg money and being just screwed by these docs i'm really beginning to hate them, i think every doctor should be hit in the knee caps with a bat or something so they could simpithy whit us. i guess they are just listening to some retarded professor that is protesting against drugs that actually work. sorry for the long post but just spent over 1000.00$ dollars at a local pain clinic for 2 visits and was in severe pain and wednt through hell to get some medication and they gave me mobic, flexeril, and i begged them for somthing stronger and they were very leary to give me ultracet.which does nothing for my pain.sorry again just so pissed about this whole situation. fi'm in NH and the PATS beaT THE COLTS SO I'M HAPPY ABOUT THAT.

Hey Opie Yates,

I enjoy reading your posts and CONGRATULATIONS! It almost seems like you hit the lottery.

Just be careful taking 8 Norcos a day. That is when it starts too REALLY GET HARD to get off of them. Just keep that in mind as I have your best interests in my heart.

I too am from Texas, (san antonio) but now live in the Virgin Islands. I know the frustration of going to doctors offices, having them lecture you then NOTHING or maybe getting a small script going to the pharmacy and having the pharmacist give you that EVIL LOOK out of the corner of their eye.

That sucks.

So take care, be pain free and lets hope that W wins in NOVEMBER!!!!!

Thanks, Voyager. My fingers, arms, legs, and toes, and even eyes are crossed!

Don't worry, I don't need or do anywhere near 8 a day (well, up to 5 for going on 2 years now. I've done a few two day holidays on, well, holidays and it's been annoying but do-able. If I see it get past my current level of usage, I plan to try and find some Bupe. Thanks again for your concern, but I ain't going that 8 a day route. That # she prescribed was a bit head scratching, but I paid cash and I guess she was trying to give me my money's worth!

I also live in Texas, you got very lucky [Re: Opie_Yates]

If a doctor in Texas prescribed all that on a first visit with no records, that kind of surprises me. My doctor of 5 years thinks I am too medicated at 4 hydro 10's a day for breakthought pain and 60 mgs of Avinza (time release morphine). I have a lot of records, 4 mri's, and recieve social security disability and a state pensions for early retirement due to back problems. Wonder what your guy would give me. LOL

He is the best I could find after going from one doctor to another each month in search of a compassionate one for about 12 months when my insurance carrier of 18 years left Texas. Guess it shows there are some compassionate medical people out there even in Texas. But it may be a perscription mill.

They raided a doctor in Dallas recently for giving 15 minute exams with perscriptions for powerful drugs after one guy got stoned and got killed whne he wrecked his car. The district attorney wasn't even going to investigate but a relative pushed the situation. A lot of doctors in the Dallas area were running scared when this happened about 2 summers ago. Even my doctor was acting like I was a junkie all of the sudden and I was not on the Avinza at the time, just the hydros

i live in TN and before i found the Pm center i go to now i was luck if i even got a script for motrin from a doc here...i wished docs were not so afraid to treat their patients that are really in need. but as we all know that would be a fairytale...but just keep looking to those who havent found the right one yet...you will sooner or later ...they are still some good docs out there you just have to do the thing i called a "mission" to find one...good luck!!

Hi,

I to have had some luck with the pain clinics. I have thoracic Scolosis (sp?) After several years of doing the OP game (anyone remember Bryson?) I finally went to a pain clinic (got the referal from my primary care doc.) They started me out on 10mg Oxycontin and 2mg Dilaudid for breakthrough. Now after seeing the pain doc for a few years I get 60 40mg Methadone and 120 8mg Dilaudid, all for $30 in co-pays per month (including the office visit.)

I have had nothing but good things about this pain doc. He is also very aware of the dangers of APAP and does not prescribe any pain meds with APAP in it. He insists that it should not be used in chronic pain patients because of long term liver damage. He says that even if you stay under the daily limits, it could still cause liver damage with long term usage.

I did have to sign a pain contract, and have to submit to drug tests. But it is not a problem, because he is more then adequately taking care of my medication needs.

So for anyone that thinks there is no hope, go an visit a pain center.. they really can be a godsend.

I toally agree. I have had Horrible spine pain and surgeries since 1988, and when my Dr. died 7 years ago, I tried to "Live with the Pain".It is impossible. So I went to a PC this year and they started Me out with 10mg. oxy and 7.5 hydros. But that was not working so they upped the oxy to 20mg. 3 times a day, with the hydros when I needed them. That still didn't work. So they did 60mg. of MScontins (morphine) twicw a day with the hydros for Break thru, and that is working. And they also said if I NEED to, I can up the Ms to 3 times a day. So far I've only HAD to do that once. I still have pain, but I can live with that amount. I will Never be "Pain Free". My Dr. told me that eventually I will end up in a wheel chair. And let me tell you, I can feel it coming. But for the time left on my feet, I will do what I can..........
