This may be a dumb question, but I'm going to ask anyway. If you want your package held at the ups hub, how do you guys go about doing that? Do you just put down the ups address that normally delivers your package??
Thanks guys Cool Gremlins

I would call UPS and ask them that. I have a feeling though that you are going to have to put down your own address and then after they leave an attempted delivery sign on your door - call them and tell them you will pick it up.

This one I know by heart, and is one "dumb question" I wish I had asked much sooner! Anyway, if you want your package held at the hub as soon as it hits your town and WITHOUT an annoying first delivery attempt, address the package as follows: Line 1: UPS Center / Hold for Pickup. Line 2: Street address of your UPS hub. Line 3: Your city/state/zipcode. And don't worry, your name will always end up on top. The secret is to simply put "UPS Center/Hold for Pickup" into address line #1 and then follow with the address of your local hub. So simple and obvious you can't help but think there must be a catch, but it works like a charm and is done all the time. I now do this for virtually all my shipments as I was never home and ended up having them held at the hub anyway after missing attempt number one. BTW, make sure that you fill in your phone number as UPS always calls to let you know that the shipment is ready for pickup. The real bonus here is that you'll be able to get your meds as soon as the hub opens instead of waiting until hours later. A real god send especially with 2-Day shipments that I never used to get my hands on until UPS would finally drop by around 7PM! Try it, you'll like it! Oh yeah. Here's a very useful tip in case of emergency. UPS policy states that they must make at least one delivery attempt before they'll let you request it held at the hub. If however you find that you can't wait for that first attempt, call UPS customer service (1-800-742-5877) and talk to a live CS rep, give them your name and tracking number and ask for a comfirmation of the delivery address. Then tell them anyway you have to that it's a VERY WRONG ADDRESS, that it will be a big headache for everyone if it goes there and ask if they could please just have it held at the hub. The two times I used this ploy they held it without question and even offered to re-route it to the "correct" address! Use only in a tight spot though as UPS keeps detailed computer records and if you cry wolf once too often there's a good chance they'll get wise to it! And call them as early as possible. Live UPS CS begins service at 7AM Eastern.

Line 3: Your city/state/zipcode.
Do you mean "Your" city etc
or of the UPS Customer Center (Hub)?

I've never had luck with that, but I'm glad it works for you. The only thing that troubles me about being able to do that is the fairly recent reports of people's UPS packages being picked up by strangers. I know it's a pain to have to wait (I HATE it!!!) but I really think some policy changes at UPS should be looked at to avoid other people having their packages intercepted.
Just my 0.2-probably not even worth that!!!!!

I always have my package held for pickup so I can either grab it before I go to work, during lunch break, or after work. I have always just had it sent to the UPS hub address, with "Hold for Pick Up". If they have time, they will either call me or post a message under tracking on the UPS website that it is available for pick-up. It has always worked easily for me. No problems. If the UPS hub is far from home/work, then for $5 you can have it sent to The UPS Store (old Mailboxes Etc) and they will sign for it for you and hold it until you pick it up.

I second your concerns about strangers picking up your UPS packages. All sorts of wild schemes have been perpetrated on them, and they fall for it. It happened to me on 7-1-04. Be very vigilant. I read UPS the riot act about requiring picture IDs for medicine.

You need to change your prefferences to read the date the way you want. You have it reading day/month/year.

that 1-800 number from UPS must be contract people, because the people at my hub act so differently, with that 1-800 number everything is always "not an option", but i do apologize sir" My ups hub people love to see me, so they do pretty much whatever for me nowadays. still prefer FEDEX, and as far as an ID, i've never had to show ID, and dont have to sign half of the time

Bucci,
I just recently went through some drama with UPS, and surprisingly enough, they actually were really accomodating for me. I originally had it set to be delivered to my home address, not realizing that I was actually making a COD order and there would be no way in hell that anyone in this house was going to sign for a package COD.
So I just called UPS, explained to them that I'd probably be at work and asked if they could hold the package at their hub. No problems whatsoever, well, if you don't count having to drive all the way down to South Philly a problem .
Another poster suggested that for future reference, you can actually list the UPS hub's address as the shipping address, but I'm not really sure how that works. I'm assuming that you find out the hub's address and put that down as the shipping address, sounds simple enough, right? Oh well, good luck!!!

I did the UPS hub address for my last shipment - it works flawlessly... No matter what, you name will be on the first line, your phone number on the second. So when you fill out the shipping address at the website you're ordering from, for the first line where it says "name" Put in "UPS Hub 0 Hold for pickup", for the next two lines you type in the address for the hub. When the package comes, there will be no where for it to go, so the hub will call the phone number you use in your profile... Then go pick up your package!
One note - even though I had the hub listed as the address, the tracking had it listed for "Out for delivery" even though it didn't... So don't get worked up if you see that. You can also call the hub with your tracking number to verify that they are listed as the shipping address...
The only bad thing is the hub here doesn't open until noon and if I get next day, I'd get it at work before 10:30. But I'd rather pick it up and keep co-workers out of my personal business...

Exactly right, I almost always request Hold at Hub it is more conveinent as I am nearby to both UPS and Fed-Ex is near my office. I put on the address
Hold for Pickup
My Name - 555-555-5555
Adress of Hub
City, State, ZIP of Hub....Thats it.
Another upside besides not having to wait until the driver comes to your neighborhood; is usually you can get by ordering 2nd Day and it will be available the next day. These are the exact same rules for Fed-Ex Deliveries. As a matter of fact the beauty of Holding for Pickup on a Fed-Ex delivery is you can order 2nd day and it will arrive next day and then normally simply sit in the warehouse only to deliver on that 2nd day. Last couple times I had it sent Fed-Ex 2nd day, I saved money on shipping obviously and still was ready to pickup first thing around 9 AM the very next day!
Edit to answer Summit question. If it was a UPS delivery that is being held for pickup and no delivery is to be made then yes, you can pick it up with your last name, address, and zip. If a delivery attempt was made you need to enter the Door tag no. on the website and change the delivery to Same Day will call. You will get a call shortly after telling you, at the phone number you give, with the time the driver is to return. This is becuase UPS Drivers keep their un-delivered deliveries in the truck until all attempts have been made which could be days. (Not god for medications as the trucks are left to weather the elements whereas Fed-Ex has a much better system in which undeliverables are moved to the climate controlled warehouse so you can pickup those packages same day of delivery without requesting a delivery change. They can also find it without the tracking no. however it really helps to have the tracking handy, as it may depend on the rep whom is helping you and whether they feel like "going the extra mile". Hope this helps!
