Haven't you tried them yet? Everbody is different, so it all depends. As for schedules it is a IIII compared to hydro 10/500 which is a III. They are pretty much the same for me, but the propoxyphene actually makes me a little sick. Make sure you take it with food. Good luck with the root canal!

For me,darvocet is less effective than hydro. But for my girlfriend, hydro made her hallucinate,so he switched her to darvocet. They worked great for her.

My dr. said that Darvocet is approximately 1/5 as strong as hydrocodone. That should give you some idea. It's
not very effective for severe tooth pain. For extractions and root canals, dentists really should give you Maxidone, in my humble opinion.

Well, since I've only taken hydro a few times for back pain a few months ago, I can't really do a side by side comparison for you. But I can tell you that when I was having a problem with a wisdom tooth coming in, I took a few Darvocet 100 (not all at once, just for a couple of days until I could see my dentist) that my stepfather gave me and by golly, it worked!
He has a script for them for his back condition, and when I tried taking one for mine, it didn't do squat for my back pain, but for some reason it helped with my tooth. Strange, huh?

I think darvocet is one of the most totaly useless drugs out there. Right up there with motin, naprocen, and anaprox.

I absolutely agree, but it's actually worse than those, because you're loading up on the "liver killer" Acetominophen, too. Not sure of the actual dosage in each Darvocet, but think it might be 500mg. So not only is the pain part of it useless, too much Darvocet can also be harmful.

They come in a ravishing bright orange pill that looked just darling with my new nail polish that the fellas and I put on each other's toes at our slumber party while we watched Fried Green Somethingorother.
Did I say that out loud?
I better go get my first cup of coffee and delete this before the wife sees it.
...Not that there is anything wrong with that!
Oh yeah, the D-100s gave me a mellow buzz but didn't do squat for pain.
If Darvocet is what your Doc prescribed then he is probably opiod-phobic and it may be an uphill battle to get anything useful for your pain.
I disagree with the above poster. I am pretty sure Propoxyphene and Hydrocodone are both classified as Schedule III.
Good Luck

LOL!! You might be interested to know that the generic comes in a "hot pink", so you could change your nail polish and still be "color coordinated"!

LOL, my stepdad had the hot pink ones at one time (Mallies, I think) and now he all of a sudden started getting these orangey red ones. I have no idea who makes those, but they have some sort of weird "V" imprint with the numbers 5112 on them. I think they might be the ones that jptrick are referring to, not sure, but to get to the point, my stepdad says they don't work as well as the pink ones. They have the same amount of Darvocet & Acetaminophen (a.k.a. liver killer) in them according to the label. I've seen other posts about different manufacturers and the potency of the meds, so maybe these are just bunk compared to the hot pink ones he had before. I'm sure it's all bunk to anyone who takes hydro for pain, but for him, he swears they're not as strong as the pink ones.

Darvon does work, in a matter of speaking. You just don't care if it hurts - as long as you take a handful.

THOSE ORANGE ONES ARE BRAND AND DONT WORK AS WELL.AS FOR THE APAP ITS 650MG PER PILL AND ALOT OF DOCS WILL TELL U TO TAKE 2 PILLS EVERY 4-6 HOURS IF 1 DONT WORK.THEY ARE KILLERS.PURE DARVON 65 MG CAPS WORK WELL IF YOU USE 2 BEFORE PAIN GETS SEVERE.

No DBer should be without this link:
http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/pubs/schedule.pdf
It gives you all the schedules. Propoxyphene when compounded is a Schedule IV. Interestingly, "bulk" amounts of propoxyphene with nothing else are Schedule II; codeine, hydrocodone, and dihydrocodeine are also listed as Schedule II if they aren't compounded, but that addition of "bulk" only exists for propoxyphene. Wha'?

I heard they were trying to make hydro sch2 but didn't think that it had taken effect yet or even voted on??? Darvons and Darvocet SUCK!!! Should be a behind the counter item with strong warning's about addiction and like alcochol need to be 21 to buy but then I don't think there are any warnings on beer bottles about addiction.

...which is what I said, except that I pointed out that large amounts of it when uncompounded are Schedule II. Weird.
