Hey all. I was wondering if there is anyone out there with experience with the controlled release version of paxil... specifically Paxil CR 12.5...
Just was put on a 6 week trial of this drug for mainly SAD. I have read the other posts on the regular full strength 'versions' and wondering what everyone else thinks about the 'CR version'...
So far CR has been OK... but then again Im on week 1. Thanks in advance for any experiences.
Have a great week

PAXIL SUCKS! get off it before you even start it. personally It made me talk in my sleep, and have unrecallable dreams in which people said i would flail about violently screaming cursewords etc.
my close friend was on it. he said it never did anything for him at all. until he stopped taking it. then he got the sakes and sweaty and panic like. it seemed to create a need for something that wasnt really there.
my other close friend was on paxil instant release 20mg. taken 10mg morng 10 mg night. she said it just made her feel wacky and cry uncontrollably among other adverse side effects.
all of us experienced withdrawl symptoms if doses were missed.
SSRI meds work by adding in an unatural chemical agitator to block the reuptake of the seritonin endorphin. i hate how incredibl fast doctors are to prescribe these medicines.
Why not take some 5HTP instead? This is a naturally occuring ammeno acid that your body uses directly to produce more SERITONIN. Thus instead of blocking a natural reuptake process, you simply stimulate the natural production neccesarry for the desired effect of increased seritonin endorphins.
also a more effective naturally occuring SSRI is St. Johns Wort. I would strongly reccomend that instead, it is far more effective with les side effects then any SSRI (paxil effexor, zoloft, lexapro, celexa, name it)
most people prefer 5htp treatment, myself included. make sure to stop using paxil cr for at LEAST 4 days before switching to 5htp. if 5htp isnt enough after 2 weeks consider adding in st johns wort
you can find information here : http://www.iherb.com/health.html
search however you prefer to find detailed information taht will be more effective.
if you are a us citizen and your doctor is one of the majority who is run by the pharmaceutical companies, they will argue with you about treatment and say drugs are more effective. ask them how much of a kickback they get for prescribing you certain drugs. then as them why it makes sense to throw in chemical agitators to block up natural processes instead of giving your body the natural fuels it uses for natural production resulting in the desired effect of treatment.
best of luck hope it helps you

My ex-husband was on this. It made him a horrible person. He had nightmares, sleep disturbances, weight gain (alot), sexual disfunctions that were quite severe, and it didn't seem to help him much for the reasons that he was taking it in the 1st place. He switched to Zoloft and his sexual performance came back, he lost weight, and his sleep patterns were back to normal. BTW~~I haven't taken Paxil, but have tried a few, and Zoloft worked the best for me.

My experiance with Paxil in general was uneventful. I didn't have any problems with it, but it didn't do anything for me either. That is until my doctor told me to just stop taking it and I went through mild withdrawl.
