Rx Guidelines for Schedule II Drugs in Michigan
      #182631 - 08/24/04 06:16 PM

(State of Michigan)

My doctor wrote me prescriptions for a Schedule II drug. The doctor wrote three separate RX's on the same date. On the second RX he wrote, "fill in 30 days" on the third RX he wrote, "Fill in 60 days".

What is the rules regarding filling the second and third RX? Does 30/60 days mean exactly, or is there a window of days it can be filled. Basically my problem is I am going on vacation, and the 60 days will come and pass while I am gone. From what I can tell the RX expires at day 60, but what about filling early, what is the timing allowed on this?

I don't know legally but i am in michigan andd they will only refill at walgreens on the exact 30 day mark for me. Can you explain to the doc you will be gone and need a double script for one or else use it at a walgreens and then fill the second at a walgreens in the state your going to be in. I did that from ark to mi at walgreens. I lived in ark gave them my scripts then when i moved to mi i just filled them at walgreens here and they looked it up on the computer and filled it.

Because these are Schedule II, the Rx can only be written for 30 days at a time. So it really isn't a refill, and from what I gathered I can't get a Rx for a Sched II drug filled out of the state it was written in.

For normal medication the 30 day mark is a sticking point for insurance. For the Schedule II medications is more of the laws that control the distribution of the medication.

i don't think you will have much luck in geting it filled
sooner but you would be better of with rite aid over walgreens and should be able to get it filled out of state
with them a few days sonner than walgreens

Can anyone verify if a SCH II RX expires in 60 days in Michigan?
