I recently spent a goodly amount of time composing a PM and forgot to fill out the subject line before clicking on submit. Because I forgot the subject in the PM, it made me use my back button and everything I had written was, of course, lost.
Why not a reminder that a subject line is missing rather than a "one of the required fields is missing" statement that loses the content of your PM? The reminder, like email hosters ask, could say "Are you sure you wish to proceed without a subject?"
I was REALLY disappointed to have lose the content of my PM because I forgot a subject.

night shade - I WHOLE HEARTEDELY agree!!!! I had the exact same thing happen to me - and my pm was no tiny little blurb. I lost about 7-8 minutes of typing time. And you can never quite get back in your head or on paper what exactly you wanted to say that you expressed so eloquently in the first place. I second your motion! Great Idea!

That happens to me a hell of a lot of times, night. Some sites, however, allow you to get back where you were before and still see the whole thing on the form, I don't know what the case is with drugbuyers, though.

After this happening to me one too many times, I decided to type my posts in Word and then copy and paste them into the message box.
It saves me a whole lot of time and frustration.
Just a thought.

Cami-
Yes, but typing in Word and doing copy and paste is time-consuming--especially when it requires a slight coding change for DB to allow no subjects at all or simply a prompt to enter a subject in PMs without using the back button.

I always (on a PC) select my reply, then do a ctrl C after I have finished writing the first draft of a post. That way I have it on my clipboard, and it is easy to paste it (ctrl V) back should something go wrong.

Hi Night,
Yes it is a little bit more time consuming but it does keep me less frustrated than when I lose a long well thought, well written post. Seems like I can never get it the same again. Mostly due to my frustration I am sure.
If you know of any other ideas, please let me know.
Thanks!
Cami

dsmmcm and cami-
You both have good ideas and I use the control c/v option regularly. It's good advice until DB elects to make changes.. HOWEVER, because this forum is for suggestions to DB to improve the board and make it more user-friendly, I want DB to take a look at their present requirement of a subject line rather than fall back on these types of "prevention". It makes more sense not to need regular prevention if it can be easily accomplished...and in this case it can.
I have long known how to use copy and paste in its variety of forms and we all must keep doing so or risk losing our raw PM contents until this situation is handled.
Cami- much easier to use the copy (control c) and paste (control v) method than using Word.
Thanks!

This is also true of new posts, too. If you forget the subject line, you lose your data.
PLEASE DB, rather than losing the info, please just have a prompt for a subject line that RETAINS the data in the posting cell!
Thank You!

We are very sorry.
We do not make the message board and it is not very easy to make modifications
As I rule you will only loose the data if your browser is set to refresh pages on each view
This most likely has more to do with user settings than with our board.
Thanks

I just usually hit the back button and my typing is still there. I usually have to hit the back button twice. I hope this helps, but I know DB proubably can't do to much about this, as it proubably has more to do with the site and our browser settings. Not sure and IT experts here who would care to answer. Maybe you could help DB, if there is an easy way to fix it or if maybe add how to avoid it in the into to members. I am sure it frustrating to types so much and lose it. I have a message board for members in my profession (mortgage broker) and ours loses the info once you go to the next thread. I have lost many a post and I am the owner and still mess up and forget something.. Ha HA

I have never lost anything using the back button when forgetting to put a subject line in a post.

If you don't lose your post/PM/e-mail when you hit back on your browser, chances are your computer isn't as secure as you might like.
But don't we have a setting somewhere in our "preferences" that can, uh sort of force you to preview your posts and such?
Maybe just theinstinctual hitting of the button will cause you to go "oh smack, I forgot my subject", and then, lo and behold. . .your PM's still there?
I don't know. It might eat your PM anyway. I don't know whether the "preview" can actually overpower the awesome force of the Ire of the Untitled PM.
