Hi everyone,I need some help.I need some pointers I am currently on a hydro holiday by choice,I am not out.The reason for this is because i got to the point were i could not take enough to help my pain,or to help me feel better, the hydro was just making me sicker so as of right now I have not taken any hydro since about noon monday the 16th and my hydro intake was pretty far up there.well anyway i have been using another opiate with no tylenol just in small doses just enough to keep me from getting withdrawals. If anyone could give me some suggestions on how to get my body going again on monday i felt so bad i could barely get out of bed i felt like i was having w/d butt i wasnt.well anyway i am starting to get a little energy back,I am taking lots of vitamens, milk thistle, drinking more water than usual, drinking sports drinks like gatorade etc.I was taking "NAC"butt ran out,I plan to get some more of that because in about 2-3 more days i am going to start taking the hydro again,I am going to take much smaller doses than i have been used to for the last 4 months or so.could anyone tell me some more things that i can do to or suplements that i can take to not get back to the point that i was at were i could barely crawl my butt out of bed,I am starting to feel better and i sure don't want to get back to were I was. Also I am trying to quit xanax I got down to about 2 bars and decided to go to my local doctor and tell him that i had been on 6-7 mg a day of the z's and that i wanted to quit butt there was no way that i was going to go cold turky because it is dangerous, and that i did not want to have a seizure, well anyway to make a long story short he had no problem prescribing 25mg of librium 4 times a day for a week.I am very thankfull that he atleast did that, butt I know my body and I know that that will not be nearly enough for me to get off the xanax completely,I am totaly out of xanax right now the first time I have been out in atleast 2and a half to 3 months,I am taking the librium as prescribed butt boy I can sure tell a major difference,I feel agitated, restless can't sleep, feel like i am coming out of my own skin, not to mention the anxiety and nervousness that caused me to start the z's in the first place. If anybody out there can help me out, give me some advice as of what i should do regarding these matters,Oh boy You don't know how much I would appreciate it.I have gotten to the point where I am sick and tired of being sick and tired,ya know what I mean I'm sure.I am tired of being physically and mentaly controled by these pills.
THANKS TO ALL

HEY POPPYALER, seems like you got some good ideas so far,
i sure understand how you were feeling when takeing the hydro and not even feeling it anymore.
one thing of course is the BIG tolerance issue of how it takes more and more to get the same pain releif one or two use to give ya!! then if you do jump up the dose like ive done in the past, even that can grow!!!pretty soon your takeing way to many and on top of no pain releif youve now probably have your liver so jacked up it isnt working right
i know from experience if the liver isnt functioning properly, youll be just as you decribed, extreme fatigue
just a general feeling of no energy period!!
i really think the holiday will help if its your liver not
functioning proper/
but the real problem will start once you start back on the hydro, will you be able to maintain your rxed dose??
will you have enough self-restraint to not overdo them once you realize your tolerance is back
its a tricky road so many of us must travel bye continued
use of lortab or norco,
i personally think all the tylenol is added just to keep people from getting and staying addicted!!
what a crock!!!! i wander how many have died from liver failure due to addiction to lortab, i know of 3 in this small town who've died from pain med addiction/
i know the (A) word isnt tolerated well on d/b,but even the proper term for most of chronic painers (dependent)
can cause serious probs in the liver/
here we get into the famous debate over the class2 drugs
with less tylenol but more effective pain releif but the
(A) word comes more into play with these drugs. or they say!! i still think the dea should lighten up on doctors
and let them rx without fear of being charged for something
someone else(their patient)does!!
allright back to your need for ideas or suggestions,
make yourself a plan and bye golly work your plan.
take more periodic hydro holidays to start, but if your pain continues check into a pain management center and see about trying something diff. without all the tylenol, say
for instance the dreaded oxy or etc,s.
but its got so bad with these type drugs you cant get much more in a pain clinic than you can get from a op!
just after my auto wreck in 1999, i took 2 oxy ??mgs per day
and that was it except for an occasional lortab, which i really had to be in alot of pain to take becuase they made me sick to my stomach!!of course after 17 surgeries on my legs, my stomach has gotten use to hydro!!!
actually my entire body has!!ha!ha!(not funny)
but im currently on a hydro holiday myself strange huh??
anyway ill shutup, keep up the good work and hope ya get to feeling better and better, who knows maybe even do so good you'll be able to stay off them alltogether and not risk
the possible liver problems!!later gage
may find your need for hydro

Poppyale,
Not sure how to taper down off of hydro since I've only taken them a few times here and there for pain, but have never taken them long term
As for Xanax, try tapering down slowly. If you were taking the 2mg bars, half one and take an OTC dyphenhydrmine product with it, you might think it sounds wierd, but it really does take the edge off. I, personally, use Benadryl, but it has the same active ingredient as an OTC sleeping pill like Nytol, but store brands work fine too. After doing that for a few days, break the bar down into 4 pieces and take one of those with the dyphenydramine. And since you were taking the hydro for pain, you might also want to try Tylenol PM, since they contain aspirin and might help you out with the pain.
I'm not guaranteeing that it will work for you, but it's worked for me so I figured I'd pass it along. Good luck, and be careful...do not go cold turkey!! Hope this helped.

Popp-Star: I read a paper from addiction specialists who said they successfully detoxed someone off of benzos through phenobarbital. It won't get you high, which is good, but the best thing is that its half-life in the body is like 100 hours or something. The big advantage is that it naturally tapers you off because of the subtle but steady decline in concentration in your body over time. In other words, switching to phenobarbital and dropping a half pill a couple of days or something is so gradual on your body, at least to the patient's body, that there were virtually no withdrawal symptoms.
Valium lasts forever, too, but it breaks down into active metabolites that are gotten rid of fast, medium, and slow, and I guess it isn't recommended as often, though I still see it sometimes as a tapering therapy for Xanax.
OurRx4Less has them, with and without codeine. Personally, I'd be attracted to the one with codeine!

You might try adding 800 mgs of Ibuprophen three times a day(every 8 hours)since it's an anti inflammatory, it's effects are cumulative, so a week from now you'll actually be in LESS pain. Take it whether you are in pain at the moment or not, to get the full benefit of the anti inflammatory. Be sure to take it with food and you may want to add Pepcid or Tums or something to buffer it. That might help you in the long run. This is simply the prescription dose and doctors prescribe it all the time, so even though it sounds like a lot, it's not. I take it routinely, and I find it does help alot. You can also substitute 400 mg's Naprosyn, but only twice a day...personally, I find the ibuprophen works better for me. and the Benadryl (or off lable brand) is also a good idea you can take 100mg's at night when you go to bed, it may help with sleep. You may also want to think about getting some soma, it also helps hydro work for alot of people. Just hang in there. Your smart to recognize your situation and do something about it while you have the will power.
