I've read and read for almost and hour...but can't seem to find a clear cut answer.I'd really appreciate any help someone can offer.
Is 5 mg of Valium the equivalent to .5 of Xanax ?? A friend tried to help me out since my doc cut down my xanax to the bone. SO she gave me a few of her 10 mg valium telling me to break them in 1/2 saying that 5mg of Valium to .5 mg of xanax are equal.
From what I am reading here in th posts everyone says 10 mg is the equivalent of .5 xanax.
All the time I spent searching, I could have posted here and already perhaps had a reply. Man..I am so thankful, I LOVE DB!
Thanks so much!!!

10 mg valium = .05 mg xanax source benzo equilvalence table. On DB main page
Personally to me Xanax is stronger then Valium. It just wears off quicker

Check out www.benzo.org.uk/bzequiv.htm - comprehensive chart that equates all benzo's to 10mg Valium and lists elimination half-lives as well...

Weird...I've always thought that 5 mg Valium was the equivalent of 1 mg Xanax...and IME, Valium is much stronger as far as the groggy side effects go. But then again, I do admit to having a tolerance level to Xanax, as I've been on it off and on for the last 4 years for anxiety disorder. They don't make me as sleepy as Valium, but do control my irrational thoughts and anxiety symptoms in general. And they do help to keep me asleep once I get there, it's the only way I can get a decent night's sleep.
Interesting stuff there on that site, though. Thanks to whoever posted it (sorry, I forgot your username).

They state right on the chart that it does not agree with many traditional benzo equivalence charts, thus the discrepancy.

I've taken most benzo's and the one I have found that works for me best, is Klonipin, there are some generics as all meds that don't work as well, or very poorly. they come in .5, 1 and 2 mg. I have taken the 10's of Valium for years, and the Xanax too. The Klonipin's effect seems to drop off slower, (some benzos have a longer half life, but after the half life they can drop quicker, and that is not charted. Also I use the middle dose, 1 mg, and I have always had to take the larger dose for 30 years of the different benzos until I tried Klonipin several years ago. My wife changed her benzos to Klonopin 1mg as she had to take the large dose on all before and it seemed to work better for her too. Saving the 2mgs for if I needed to up the dose. I always had to start at the max dose and just had to use another when the tolerance changed, that had come out and worked better, Klonipin seems to have almost the same anti-axiety effect as I received when first started it. Sometimes I forget to take a dose and have little effect where others mostly made me pay with anxiety if I missed a dose.
