Question about tramadol for hydrocodone withdrawl
      #179288 - 08/10/04 03:58 PM

Hi. i have personal experience with both tramadol usage and how to taper off tramadol. i also have read a lot and studied the pharmacology and clinical use of this drug. I am positive that anyone who has tapered all the way down to Zero hydrocodone and is in that second stage of longer mental withdrawl would benefit from light tramadol use to help that later zero hydrocodone stage.

however a few people have PMed and asked me about using tramadol when you havent tapered down to zero, using it sort of in a way that temgesic is used. I dont know the proper way this is done or if its a good idea. would people with experience using tramadol in this way reply and give some experienced-based advice? readers will realize advice is not professional but just based on another persons experience

Uggh, I've heard about using tramadol to taper, too. Here's my experience:

Last week I thought I'd taper down from 6 10/325s to 3 or 4. Well, hot darn, here come those tramadols in the mail from ourrxforless. So I set myself up with 100mg of tramadol in the morning, 50 in the afternoon, and another 50mg at night. I found that I could drop immediately from 6 hydros to 2. Yep, 2.

So I cut down a bit on the tramadol, down to 100mg a day. The first day I do this, things are good. I'm such a stud! The next day, which is today, I feel like the muscles in my back are on fire, and my joints ache. I've taken 5 hydros already because of it, which has done nothing, so I suspect it's tramadol withdrawal. After only 7 days! I took 100mgs this morning and just took another 100mgs to try to get rid of that muscle pain. I'll keep everyone posted on whether that helps, and maybe I'll be the guinea pig for tram withdrawal symptoms if it turns out this is w/d.

I posted earlier but here's another 2 cents. I found opiate withdrawal very physical and had a massive 'like I wanted to die' depression.

Benzos were almost entirely psychotic - vivid visual hallucinations, some auditory and my thoughts were like the cartoon channel. It took about 2-3 days for the WD effects to creep in and 3 days of cartsunamies. Incredibly vivid and seemingly lucid. And this was after a taper!

I think that, no matter what your daily dose is and how long you taper, your gonna have some degree of psychosis. My opinion is that it should be done either in a medical facility or at least with 24/7 coverage with people who know the issues and can deal with them.

My last 2 cents. Now I'm broke,

jbnugget

OOPS! I thot I was repling to opiate vs benzo WD. Sorry.

i agree with tone as far as light tramadol use. i had one hydro left and i had several tramadol so i took 100mg twice a day for approx 3 days and i had very little or slight wd. tramadol did work for me as far as getting heavy wd, still felt a little strange, but it got me thru, i have heard so much negative about tramadol that i was too scared to continue it for any length of time. just my experience

I had a seizure from ultram/tramadol. I will never take this medicine again. I am not saying that it is not a useful medicine for many people, but I took it for 2 days and a seizure without any warning. I had no weird feelings or anything. I was sitting in church and all of sudden, boom- I was out. The thing that I learned with the medicine is that it can be very dangerous depending on if you take something else with it or if you have a any disorders. I had pneumonia and was on an antibotic. That was it. No other controlled drugs-not even cough syrup. Just be careful please-
