perduretas vs hydro
      #178961 - 08/09/04 02:02 PM

I was wondering what is the potency difference between the two?

How many perds do I need to take to get the same effect as a 10mg hydro?

My buddy does both of them all the time - he was out of hydro 2 weeks ago and switched to perds exclusively. He says that 2 or 3 crushed-up perds are equivalent to 1 hydro.

I'm also curious as to how codeine differs from hydro for the management of cough. I'm using about 1 perduretas per day with good results for my chronic cough.

Could I take a 7.5 hydro and break it in half for the same effect? It seems that hydro is cheaper per dose. Is this correct?

all narcotics (opiates) supress the cough reflex to some extent...there's no reason you can't substitute hydro for the perudetas if that's cheaper....are you coughing up sputum? If your cough is a wet one, producing sputum, try to spend part of the day NOT supressing it..only one way for that stuff to get out, you guessed it. Also, have you had any diagnositic tests, like a simple chest xray? a Chronic cough is NOT normal & NOT to be ignored. Good luck

IMSUSCOT1 is correct. A chronic cough is nothing to be trifled with. Narcotic cough prescriptions are generally prescribed for dry, non-productive coughs. I have these periodically due to allergies and have been prescribed Tussionex PK Suspension. This is a syrup that combines hydrocodone (to curb the cough reflex) with an antihistimine. I've also been prescribed this for a very bad cough resulting from the flu. Like IMSUSCOT1 stated, all narcotics supress the cough reflex, with codeine and hydrocodone being the most commonly prescribed medications when dextromethorphan hydrobromate (the cough supressent most commonly found in OTC cough medicines such as Robotussin) isn't adequate.

Be careful however. These narcotic syrups and cough tablets and pills can be just as tolerance building as narcotic analgesics containing the same substances.

Thanks. I'm a ex-smoker of 43 years and have stage 1 emphysema and I was having severe dry coughing spells daily for the last 2 1/2 years since I quit smoking. Coughing to the point of getting headaches and I sell for a living, so coughing in someones ear while you are trying to pitch is very frustrating. I've been taking one 50 mg. perderutas daily and I haven't coughed in two months, it's been wonderful.

But, I'm noticing that all class 2's are getting harder to get. Yesterday I was on a site that had good prices on hydrocodone, today, all hydrocodone is off the site.

From my research, it looks like hydro is about many times stronger than codeine and easier and cheaper to get.

I do prefer the codeine alone however, as I won't take tylenol or ibuprofen, only aspirin.

Thanks for the feedback, both of you.

Also, I found a very tiny little site in Canada that will sell tylenol number ones or aspirin/codeine, same as number ones and some codeine cough syrup. Not strong, but not too pricey and available if someone is interested.

I'm so sorry to hear this! It must be terrible. You know, dextromathoran (spelling is wrong, but someone will correct me) potentiates hydro it's been written about in other threads on hydro and there was even an OP that had a doc that would prescribe them both for you...but it's just an OTC cough syrup I believe you might get better results in using them in combination....just ask your pharmacist what brand he would recommend. Good luck to you
