WOW!!!
All you guys and girls are all soooo "KEWL", I never thought that this thread would get such a overall positive and informative response. And we've learned so much from one another. This is a good thing cuz this way no one will repeat what happened to me. It's great to have website like drugbuyer.com and a variety of topics one can probe, dissect, find the CORE "cause and effect". It feels good to be back. "REELLY", I thought I lost personality forever, I felt it was never going to return and I never to re-visit this site cuz I had lost all intellectual motivation and ability to write well thought replies, while going through withdrawal. But maybe it was meant to be, maybe I was destined to go through withdrawal, cuz God knew that I can physically withstand it, and then relay my experience to others, so that if they do choose to go on "XanaX". they understand the risks. And if they choose to go off "XanaX", then they do it properly under medical supervision. That option wasn't open to me, I did it all on my own (What a lonely and scary feeling). But at least from what I'm hearing in some people's posts some are ready to quit, but they are taking the more responsible and sensible route. If we can save one life then all the suffering I went through was worth it!!!
God Bless and remember If you're going to quit, do it under medical supervision. It does make sense if you think about it. The doc will put you on a long-acting benzo like valium or kolnopin, match the strength millgram-by-millgram, and then slowly taper you off the long-acting benzo. I know it's alot easier to taper off a long-acting benzo then a shorting one. Keep up the good work everyone, the more info we put out there, the more people will choose their decisions carefully and well-thought out in advance. Who knows maybe we saved someone's life inadvertently, when they read our posts and connected all the dots, they created a solution for a possible up-and-coming tapering-down episode. Peace every-one!!!

yes i remember back in the day how safe xanax was the wonder drug was that not the 80's, well i went thru withdrawl from valim and it was a nightmare i can remember like yesterday and it was in the hospital. well flash forward to 2004 and my pcp scripted .25 xanax a day plus my blood pressure medicine and got everything under control. yeah right!! he says take it 5 days and stop for 5 days that way you never get addicted, well needless to say somedays i take more and some days i take none, now i am freaking out becuz i am due for refill which i know he will give me but i am rethinking all this benzo stuff becuz what i have read about xanax is completly freaking me out and i just finished a taper with hydro and really not on top of the world right now. i remember screaming at the nurse to give me my meds when she had just gave them to me not a pretty sight to go thru any benzo wd. i was about 50mg daily for 3 years before i turned myself in. i refuse to go thru any benzo nitemare again. thanks for this thread. got me thinking about what is going to happen at refill time.

Thank you Reel I am sorry you had to go thru the same horrifying experience as my hubby did(oh,your poor girlfriend-she must have been scared silly!). I am strongly considering filing a lawsuit against these dr's who let him go home after learning he was going cold turkey off Xanax It was like they JUDGED him a "junkie",and lost any medical sensiblity to HELP him I cannot believe you did NOT get medical intervention-you are VERY lucky to be alive! My hubby was having THE worst nitemares& hallucinations-he really did seem as if he was schizophrenic But-he's doing better now-and I hope to GOD those of you reading this thread understand Xanax is NO freakin JOKE It messes with the very chemicals in your BRAIN that make you SANE-and they really do change your personality both while you are on them, and going thru w/d's
Please,be careful people

I currently use Xanax only rarely. I'll go through 90 Valium or 100 Klonopin and still have plenty of Xanax left. Xanax addiction is swift and vicious. To me, diazepam and clonazepam are far more satisfying and effective if you don't have out and out sudden onset panic disorder...and even then, you can dissolve a clonnie under your tongue if you can wait 10-15 minutes for calm.

I was curious if a person could switch from Xanax to Klonopin easily? Should there be a taper with the Xanax, and then add the Klonopin? I know Klonopin is an anti seizure med, so it should help prevent any seizures, but what's the best approach to switching?
Thanks for this great topic!
I have just recently switched from Xanax to Klonopin, with NO problems! As a matter of fact, I prefer the Klonopin because of all the above mentioned issues. On the benzo equivalency chart, they are mg. for mg. the same...but I have found that where I could easily take 3-4 mg/day of Xanax, 2mg. of Klonopin once every other day is treating me just fine! Another advantage of Klonopin is that it is MUCH cheaper than Xanax...I dunno why that is, I think it's probably supply and demand. Anyway, I am not a doctor or anything, but in my experience, you can make the switch quite painlessly.

Whoa, sounds like you went through quite an ordeal!! Xanax withdrawal seems to be a common topic of conversation on DB, I have been discussing this with a lot of people in posts on other threads.
From the sound of what most people seem to go through, it sounds like if you're having really bad WD symptoms it can be horrendous. I've experienced I guess what would be considered "mild" WD symptoms, if you consider not being able to sleep for 5 days and just generally feeling like I'm going to hyperventilate or pass out from anxiety symptoms mild. Never had a seizure, thank God. No muscle twitching, either. I was just reverting back into my good old irrational anxious agoraphobic self again.
I do agree with the people who say that it's best to taper your doses down if you know that your script is about to run out. I've been there with being completely cut off, myself, and it wasn't pretty. Tried other meds that either didn't work or gave me side effects that had nothing to do with my anxiety disorder. I swear, they were the pills that make people crazy. Or at least that was my experience. Glad to see you're doing OK, and welcome back to the board!!

Having Zero blood level of Xanax in your system half or more of the time is the key factor. Suppose you use xanax once every 2, mostly 3 days and thus much of the time your blood level is zero. now suppose you use xanax once or twice everyday and your blood level NEVER hits Zero, there is always constantly some blood level of xanax. well your withdrawl will be as high as your average blood level and will be infinately more than if your blood level is zero much of the time. with a some constantly blood level of xanax the receptors are always constantly downregulated.
So, if you are someone who can get by with the benifits of xanax only a few times a week or less often, or someone who can stay off xanax accept for the few worst anxiety times of your week or month, please do. Con: you only get the benfits of xanax when most needed and not everyday. Pro: Little or no withdrawl because blood level is often ZERO
If you are someone who just has to have xanax (or benzodiazipine) every day, then use your medicine, always keep extra for a taper, and look into alternatives that cause less dependance.
good luck and take care all
