I have found that since using hydro to control my pain, I have gained 30 pounds that cannot lose!
I also take Ritalin for what is LIKE adult-ADD and I was warned about weight loss and loss of appetite.
Well, I don't really eat that much I don't think but I definitely have the anorexia of Ritalin....no appetite.
But yet, I have managed to gain weight!!!
Anyone else?

Yep. Same thing happened to me and ironically the same amount, too, 30 pounds! It's been impossible to lose.

I have gained weight as well, which isn't helping my back problems at all. Opiates and opiods cause the craving of sugar, wich works on the same receptors. It also slows metabolism, and for some people leaves them feeling lethargic~~thus resulting in weight gain. It will at times, usually at first but not with long term usage, reduce appetite, but those people usually have higher metabolisms in general.

I almost always gain 10-15 lbs when i'm put on pain meds and also gain weight when put on xanax or klonipin or another benzo. Just as predictably i'll lose that same amount (if not more) whenever I am tapered off the med. It drives me crazy because I obviously don't want to take the meds any more than necessary but i'm one of those "fortunate" ones who can eat anything and everything as often as I want and won't gain a pound. That would be great if I weighed a 'normal' weight but in my case I could really use an extra 20 or 30 lbs on my bones. I'm far from anorexic or anemic but i'm certainly on the thin side. I guess (warning, amrchair doctoring about to begin) that my metabolism just flies along at warp-speed normally but when i'm on benzos it's slowed down enough that food stays in my system long enough to accumulate instead of being constantly burned off. It sounds like a blessing, and I don't mean to complain too much, but when you're in your mid-30s and can still wear clothes you bought in highschool... Good thing I kept them, I hear '80s fashion is coming back and I still have plenty of it. But alas i'm rambling and am heading far off-topic and out into the nether-regions of my twisted mind. Good luck with the weight/med issues, it's certainly no joke especially if you have chronic pain and limited mobility already. They always say swimming is a great adjunct to meds in some pain therapy so if you're lucky enough to have access to a pool year-round.... .
Good luck

I find at different times benzos have had different effects on my weight. If I'm taking a higher dose than usual, I have a diminished appetite, and if I'm busy, I can forget to eat. Just don't experience the usual hunger pangs.
At other times, usually at a lower dose on benzos, my appetite is normal, which for me, is big, but I suspect the benzos slow down my metabolism so I can easily put on weight and need to be careful.
I've also noticed that when I've tapered down to almost nothing, I drop weight, so I suspect there is a definite effect on the metabolism with benzos.
But with benzos I find if I eat moderately and exercise every day, I don't have to worry, not like when I was taking antidepressants. I think they seriously mess up the metabolism because I'd gain weight even when eating half what I normally do and exercising twice as much.
