Call your MD IMMEDIATELY. It should NOT hurt - something is wrong - IUD's are NOT for every female for sure - can cause bleeding, and if not inserted correctly can perforate uterus.
If your MD is NOT there - go to an emergency room IMMEDIATELY!

Call 911 and go to the hospital.
Lab- it is supposed to hurt a little the first couple days. But what she is describing isn't this- there are a few things that can go wrong with an IUD like a uterine perforation; regardless, this isn't normal and pain that doesn't respond to OTC analgesics is an emergency.

I have one I've had it for 7 years now (i have the 10-12 year one Paraguard) anyways it should not hurt at all afterwards, you shouldn't have any pain ,If I remember right you might have some cramping but not even as bad as a period cramping., I never had any problems with mine in the whole 7 years. PLEASE let use know how you are doing.....M

You can have minor pain for 1-2 days, cramping/pain/whatever. Not every woman has the same reproductive organs- it is based on a lot of factors, having kids and what not. So posting "you should not feel ANY pain" is going to make some women think an emergency is going on when it's not. With that said, this viper person is an emergency.
I'm just clearing this up- not mad- just don't want anyone who does go for IUD to think any pain is an emergency- it should respond to OTC analgesics and that's it.

Wow Viper! Hope your doing ok now!
I hadnt caught this thread until just now. I would have said the same as yaw. It did sound like your uterus was trying to expell it. I had the same IUD as M. The paraguard. At the time I think it was to last 8 or 9 years. I had it for about 5 and never had a problem. I ended up getting it taken out after experiencing other female issues and my dr didnt want anything foreign in my body while we were trying to figure out what was going on.
IUD's are a strange thing. They actually dont even know how they work. They just do for some women. Well, they have their theories but cant prove them.
Well, thank god your ok!! Your hubby will be fine also! It only hurts for a few days and from what I hear it really isnt that bad for them. You will be better off afterward. No more worrying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Take Care!

I have had an IUD for 6 years and I have the copper wire one, and i think there is a newer one out, anyway i remember taking off the rest of the day from work and did remember it cramping really bad for about oh 24 hours or so, but then i was completly fine, i would suggest however to go and get it checked out just to be sure it should not give you the pain that you are describing. The only thing I hate about IUD's is that i have my period for like 10 days and sometimes I get the worst cramp almost like giving child birth, I also just ended my period a couple of days ago and I am spotting really bad and had come clots which i have never had before, but i am not in any pain, I wonder what it could be. Sorry for being so graphic. Anyway, please let us know how everything goes.

lttlbit, same with me and my periods they last forever and are really bad ones, but I think its worth it not to ever even think about birth control, I have the copper one too, like I said in previous post have had it 7 years now...M

So do we know how Viper is?
That whole IUD thing always shook me...but I am not the bravest of women when it comes to all that. I was a comedy routine with the Diaphr--you know.
And the Sponge...I was sure I was going to die.
I could not get it back out.
I am just going to say.....for a while...every now and then I would try and then freak.
I felt like I was a Thanksgiving Turkey and I was trying to De-Giblet myself, but I was going to tug on all the wrong stuff too hard and leave that little waxed paper bag in instead....
I hope this isn't too much detail for the guys....
Sometimes what goes up needs a set of channel lock pliers to come back down...

Thank you, Delwyn, I am so glad that whole thing turned out in a laugh!
Viper, thank you for letting us know how you are; hope you don't have any infection or irritation from IUD site in days to come. Keep an eye on yourself, ok?
Hugs to Both of YA!
