Don't you just hate when they meddle in healthcare?

Just a question - do you think any med today comes close to what Placidyls and Quaaludes do? Or is it all safe, inoffensive, kid-friendly Xanax for all?

I've heard other terminology, like Dores and Fours (Doriden? and Ty-4). That one sound familiar?

Oh well, don't want to start mixing the discipline of pain medicine with the 'hobby' of drug experimentation.
It's just that the whole drug culture, pharmacology, mind expansion, etc, also interests me a great deal, as does feeling fine.

Doesn't make me a drug addict btw.

Red.

Ah Ludes (Lemmon and Rorer 712/714) and Reds (Seconol). Those were the days. My late Grandfather was a GP with a office in the front of his home. How many times I "dipped" into the free pharmacy sample bottles. Alas, not available anymore as are many other meds.

We do not allow any comments about recreational drug use.
The question is: what is a qualude? (quaalude)

As per our rules all users that admitted to recreational drug use, or made post about recreational drug use, will be banned. Those are the rules. Sorry .

If those were "reds" or seconal, that and booze has caused a lot of deaths.

Barbituates were used alot back then - and those are really dangerous, esp mixed with booze.

I believe that combination is what killed Marilyn Monroe. Being 44 years old, I guess I am old enough to have been around when they were available at the fancy university where I got my undergrad degree.

I am glad I never tried them. The potential for abuse is too great. I graduated with my BA in 1982 and I remember that back then people didn't even think cocaine was addicitive! Can you imagine?

I was a studious kid & am grateful I missed that bad news substance also.

Hello, a quaalude, methaqualone was the wonder drug supposedly made for the 60 & 70's until it was banned from the US in 1979.Its original maker Arner Stone as you may remember orange AS's became so popular so quick they had an epidemic on their hands in a matter of a few years. What was supposed to be a very safe sleeping pill turned out to be as quoted by BIG BROTHER the LOVE DRUG! It was good for whatt it was made for.Much less harmful than seconal, nembutal, tuinal.Like all good things they come to an end sooner or later.

They were in my humble opinion the proto "gorilla pills". What ever valid reason for their being considered medicinal obviosly didn't stand up to scrutiny for long.
As for abuse [rec. use] another enigma to me. No euphoria worth the mentioning, however the slapstick humor of taking "one small step for mankind" and falling down the remaining 15/20 stairs at a public place was remarkable.
We were eejits who's ideas of 'counter-culture' was so remarkably free of responsibility for ones poor choices, that I hope the social pendulum swings a bit less wide in days to come.

Keep well, Ruddy
