So tired of UPS...
      #177534 - 08/02/04 11:24 PM

It seems the more I deal with them, the more beligerent and incompetent I feel their organization is. I've read a lot of stories folks have posted about their experience with them on DB - but it wasn't until today that I had first-hand experience.

I was woken up early today by several bangs on my door followed by multiple doorbells. I got out of bed and headed towards the door. In the hallway, the banging continued and without me even asking who it was I heard "F.B.I.!" Needless to say I woke right up and hurried to the door.

Then as I opened the door, the driver was driving off with my auto-parts just sitting on the ground! I had ordered them last week online.

Do they think this is funny? It wasn't even my normal UPS delivery guy either - I saw him as he drove away. Perhaps he had been dipping into some of their 'lost' package claims from IOP's that morning. I can see why more companies are switching over to other couriers now. They are at times completely unprofessional. BTW, the last company I contracted for dumped UPS (and this was a MAJOR account for them).

I saw a commerical for a new nationwide delivery service that looks like it will be competing with fed ex and ups. Watch out.

That would be non other than DHL. They just recently merged with Airborne and have begun to increase their domestic presence. I've always liked FedEx best and use them as much as I can in business, but UnitedRX leaves me no other choice but UPS. FedEx beats UPS hands down on at least two counts. FedEx 2 Day air packages usually make it to the hub next day and they're also open on Saturdays so if you miss a Friday delivery attempt you're not stuck until Monday. UPS is closed on Saturday (yep, I missed receiving my meds once on a Friday and had one of THOSE weekends) and a 2 Day air shipment always takes the "scenic route" and NEVER arrives next day. Oh well, I'd be willing to give DHL a shot at least once to see how they do. And as far as the UPS guy pounding on the door and yelling "FBI", that's just plain bizarre! Man, I'd rattle that cage as hard as I could. NOT funny at all!

I hate UPS too, but where I work they use UPS. I told the guy once that I had a package that would be there Saturday when it was closed. He told me to simply go to the back of the building where the big garage door is open to let the UPS trucks in (they deliver on Saturday, but the office is closed). He told me just to walk into there and choose any office that has someone in it and ask for my package. I did this and the guy was very nice and got it for me- No problem. So in that instance, they got a gold star. But, they have gotten many faces before from me!
A little dancing fruit? (Sorry I love it)

We used DHL in our business for a long time, both for overseas and some domestic. They were very reliable, timely - esp. for overseas, you could count on 2-3 day rather than a week (I am talking about 3 of the continents and several central american and carribeian also) and seemed to be very good at getting computer software through customs in a reliable and expediant fashion (this was sometimes a problem, just like importing meds here, but everything we sent out or had sent in came through in no longer than 3 days start to finish). Airborne was also very reliable when we used them, just a tad more expensive back then than fed ex. I would say this is a great sign and I hope ops will switch from ups to dhl!
