Teeth Grinding
      #176546 - 07/28/04 01:00 PM

Hello,
I have ground my teeth in sleep my whole life. Getting to where there is not much buffer between my enamel/root or whatever. Have tried custom dentist hard plastic protector, bit it in half first nite ($300!). No way I can get to sleep with store bought guards, no matter how much I shave them down. My question is-- would a soma or flexeril taken at bedtime and again at 2AM snacktime help? Tolerance issues with muscle relaxers?

Thanks in advance,
Mike

WOW, you must have one powerful bite!

Seriously though, I think I would really talk this one over with your dentist as to which drug would be best. Soma or Flexaril might work, but IME (I'm a bit of a night grinder too) Valium or Klonipin seems to work the best. Matter 'o' fact a friend was just recently prescribed 1mg klonipin (clonazepam) to be taken nightly for teeth grinding and restless leg syndrome. Good luck... I know how painful that must be becoming!

My dentist finally adjusted my bite. I would go back time and time again to let him take a little here and there until I did not have to use my mouth piece anymore. You will know if it isn't right after you wake up and feel like you have chewed your way out of hell. HE!HE! Good Luck!

there were 2 things that helped my teeth grinding and I have done my whole life. first was to be tested for sleep apnea. which I had and was surgicly corrected. and i stoped takeing any med that caused you to have deaper sleep. things like hydro/muscle relaxants and i do not drink.
it reduced my teeth grinding and as a side effect it reduce the amount of tension headachs i got which was from the muscle action of the teeth grinding
