Thanks for posting that. It was a very informative article. I was able to find NAC (at what I thought was a pretty good price) just by doing a search and just finished ordering two bottles. I average anywhere between 1-3 (averaging 2) 7.5/750's a day, and I'm unclear if that puts me in any danger, but I don't want to take any chances.

I already was taking milk thistle on a semiregular basis. Maybe I should be more diligent in remembering to take that.

Milk thistle's crazy stuff, though. I went to happy hour one night last week while popping milk thistle every hour and woke up the next afternoon with the worst headache I've had in many years. I wouldn't connect it with milk thistle except that the last time I had such a bad head was, yep, the day after a party where I was taking it. It keeps toxins from getting into liver cells, and supposedly also increases protein synthesis in them, which may help with detox reactions. Then again, what that says is that APAP and other drugs (alcohol, in my case) now A.)spend more time in your body, causing free radical damage or other havoc, and/or B.)get shunted to the kidneys, putting tremendous strain on them now as they have to filter untreated drugs that need to be modified by the liver to be excreted without stoppping up the filters in the kidneys. NAC, too, isn't a good idea for daily use, but that's another story. Only for emergencies, guys! There's no miracle drug that protects you and has no side effects.

That said, I'm sorry for being pedantic AND a doom-and-gloom merchant. For what it's worth, I take alpha-lipoic acid every day. It makes your first pee of the day smell funny, but it's the closest to a perfect body protectant. It's a normal product of the metabolic cycle, so it's easily dealt with by the body (it also means it lowers your blood sugar, so if you're diabetic, watch out). It is an antioxidant on its own, but the real clincher is that it potentiates the effects of other antioxidants! So instead of forcing the redox state of the cell to change, as NAC does, lipoic acid is a helper chemical, restoring the reduced state to glutathione and vitamin E and other antioxidants only after they've cleaned up the cell a bit. So it enhances natural protective functions without forcing the cell's chemistry to change.
