I was just wondering if there was anyone else out there with hip problems like me? It all started when I was about 8 months pregnant with my son who is now 9! I deal with hip pain almost everyday. Some nights if I take something like flexarel (sp) , or my trazodone I will sleep on on side for hours and then I wake up to excrushating pain. I try my hardest to get out of bed and then I can hardly walk. I limp for days after and then the hip that wasn't slept on gets tired from me using that one and then they both hurt so bad I waddle like a duck to walk. No matter what position I'm in it hurts! When I'm in the shower I can feel this huge lump on my left hip, that's the one that's been bothering me the most lately. I can feel pain in like 3 different areas, 2 places on my hip and one that shoots to my groin area. (I said groin , he he) I thought about seeing a orthopedic surgeon but not sure if that's where I need to start out. I have even had to go to the ER because I couldn't stand the pain anymore. The fun part is I could be a weather women if I really wanted...as far as telling you when it's going to rain. I get in so much more pain when it rains.
The other problem is...I no longer have health insurance or an income. A week ago I was fired from the Children's Hospital after working there for 4 1/2 yrs. Apparently you can't miss more than 10 days in 4 1/2 yrs! Best if kept off the board! Missed that one. So now I have no, health insurance, no job, no car (that was repossed from me too) and soon will probably not have an apt. I'm just amazed how bad my luck gets with each year. When I was on a paint crew with my aunt about 5 yrs ago I was being a smart butt and walked under a ladder like 10 times....I now know the results of that one!
Anyway, if anyone else has problems with their hips or knows where I should start out I would really appreciate any feedback you can share with me. I just don't know how much longer I can really take the pain. I don't really talk about this to my family, sometimes I feel as though they think I'm overreacting so why even bother?!? I know that I can always count on you all to help out when you can. Thanks ahead of time.
Hoping at least you guys are having a pain free day!

I can only speak from my own experience, but I started taking glucosamine and chondroitin after I could no longer climb the stairs. It kicked in after about 5 days and works wonders. I still have to take a few aspirin now and then, but if you haven't used it , it might be worth a try. Good luck. BTW, mine is Arthritis related (runs in the genes).

i had a car wreck and my left hip was shattered
so i sure understand hip pain, i had 2 surgeries just to get it ready for a total hip replacement.
i had the total hip replacement done in may 2003, my pain is much better but due to complications the pain still
bothers me especially with any activity.
you might try sleeping with a pillow between your legs, but other than that i have no other info. to help, except if possible see a hip doctor and have xrays done.
most people who have totalhip replacements have better results than i did, hopefully you wont need one but if you do, im sure it would help.
sorry i couldnt help more.gage

Hi there.
I'm sorry to hear about you hip pain and especially that it is minimized, at all, by your family.
This may be long winded, but I feel like I may can help you. If only in that you get help quicker than I did.
Here goes...(I am still emotional over all this, so bare with me.)
I had severe, left hip pain for three years total. The pain increased greatly when I carried my son, in the last months. I am a nurse so I am on the floor working and lifting and things are really bad somedays. The pain at day's end would feel like fire one minute, then deep agonal pain, then numb. My OB Doc just said the baby was laying on a nerve and that because I normally weigh around 90 pounds and now with both pregnancies have weighed 150+, it was all weight and nerve related. Well, time went on and so did the pain and I went to every Doc I could think of and pointed to that left hip area and EVERY STINKING time they diagnosed me as ovarian cyst OR kidney stone. I was sick of trying to get someone to believe me, no one believed I could hurt as much as I said I did. My family got tired of listening and stopped a long time ago! So anyway, I eneded up at the ER one evening with severe, Left sided pain that was also present in my groin area....They found loads of blood in my urine and immediately medicated me and sent me for an IVP. I've had 30+ kidney stones in ten years, so this was nothing new to me...
The next day I got a call from my general MD, he said "you need to make arrangements to have yourself and your husband if possible in my office first thing today." I found out the x-ray tech had x-rayed TOO LOW and saw something on my upper leg and hip!
I think I died between the time I got the call and got to his clinic. I was so scared, but immediately I told my family and basically got to say I told you so!!!
He told me not to walk at a fast pace, bump my leg, run or do ANY physical activity. So I got there and he flat out said, find yourself an oncologist of merit and an ortho oncologist preferably. The mass had consumed my femur and hip. I'm not going to get too technical, but in the end I have had those tumors removed. They have grown back repeatedly and absorbed all the artificial grafts that they have inplanted. They had to break it all, fill it all in, reconstruct it& use hardware each time to hold it together. My last surgery was at the Univerity Cancer Hospital in my State and they used Donor bone grafts this time and so far, no regrowth.
Here is what I want you to know. I did not tell you this to scare you half to death. I did not share this as anyone else's opinion other than my own. I just wanted you to be aware that I am a firm believer in listening to your body and seeking help any where you can get it.
I know you said that you have lost your car and job, ETC. But is it possible for you to pay a visit or set up payment for a visit to an Ortho? Maybe you could get your x-rays from your ER to an ortho instead of having to pay for more...I know in the state I live in you can get assisstance, but I don't know about your's. In my opinion the BEST PLACE for you to ultimately end up, if possible, at your state's Universtity Hospital or Research or Center or whatever is available there. I found they took me in and pushed for the extra mile because I was a good case study for them. The kind of tumors I have are so rare that they are suppossedly one in ten million.!? Leave it to me...lol.
I just want you to know that I understand hurting and wondering, being dismissed and ignored, and then desperately seeking help.
I don't know that I could help you out or not, but I would be willing to make some calls and find out through my hospital what resources would be available to you, in your situation, in you home State.
My sister is a NP and my brother-in-law a Doc, they may be in your state....I know they could help. Just PM me ANYTIME to ask anything you need to, I'll help all I can. AND I'll pray for you in the meantime that you have no problems even comparable to mine. I am not trying to say anything bad about anyone else's condition, or belittle their positions and experiences, so please don't mis-understand me.
Let us hear from you, keep us updated.
Best of Luck to you

A BIG thanks to all of you that have responded to me so quickly. I forgot to add in my first post that when I went to the ER they had done an x-ray and told me everything was ok....well....everything is NOT ok! I'm the one who has to feel the pain...not them!! I want to say to them so bad "well, I hope you get a good night's sleep! You won't be in pain all night and lose hours of sleep because you're hurting so Best if kept off the board bad!" They don't care! I haven't met ONE Dr. that cared! My last dr. gave me vicoprophen which was great an all, he also gave me a script for physical therapy. Well, not like after him giving me this I had to have surgery again. I just had a laparoscopy but it hurt way more than the first time. I have this thing with wanting to get scar adheasions I guess, lol. The first time my uterus was attached to my stomach and many more adheasions. The second time my bowel was attached to something and more adheasions...anyway that's sorta getting off the hip subject. I will try to find a Dr. somewhere. I wish they could take care of everything in the ER. Grrr
I am SO SORRY to hear about your experience wannabewell!! When you told that story it also felt like I was telling it. And the burning pain...woo! And I told my Dr.'s that I saw whether it be my PCP or the ER that for about 3 weeks my hip was numb! I was being stupid at work one night showing my manager that I couldn't feel it so I was poking it with a key...the next day I had a yucky bruise. Leave it to me to be so darn stupid. So when you talked about the "numbness" was it for a long period of time? It's worse on my left than my right, think I said that before
The other thing is, my father has really bad arthritis. He has it like all over his body. He also has some slipped disk in his neck and no "sponges" in between his vertebra's. I have watched this man everyday work his arce off even though several of us has to him to slow down, rest, etc. He just can't! He always has to find something to do. I remember as a little girl I would wake up several times in the middle of the night and my dad would be sitting in his recliner watching tv because he was in too much pain to sleep. I finally told him a yr or two ago how much of an imact that had on my life. It REALLY hurt for me to see my father in so much pain! My dad will take the shirt of his back for anyone, so why do people like him have to be in so much pain?! I will never know. Anyway, my PCP at the time (Cigna sucks! They switched my PCP every 3 months, which looks bad for me because then Dr.s question why I've had so many docs!) told me that I have arthritis in my hips, just simple as that! No offer of any help or meds. Sorry for rambling on and on guys... I'm jsut really thankful to actually talk to people about my feelings with out someone saying "oh, you're fine!" This is a crazy world! I tried to PM you wannabewell but it's says you're not accepting PM's so maybe you should fix that, lol.
P.S. I fogot to add that when I had severe back pain, sometimes I think it's from the hips also, not sure though. I was in the ER and they tested me for kidney stones...was all clear on that one. To my knowledge I have never had a kidney stone. I've also had my gullbladder tested several times and that has been fine too. Just to clear that part of it up, lol.
Take Care everyone!

Thank You DailyPain for you empathy.
The numbness was always alternating with the deep pain and then burning. I can remember times that the numbness would last for days and weeks. There was never any rhyme or reason for any of it. It's hard to give and exact pattern because I never established one. I do wish you well and I don't wish arthritic pain on anyone. I'm am sorry about your Dad. My Mother is ill also and stays in pain after thirty five years of HARD Physical laboring. I'd rather hurt than for her too. I sympathize with you on that issue.
Now I'm worried about the PM thing....I had it on when I signed up because I got some PM's...I don't know what happened, but I'm going there now to fix it. I'm sorry you couldn't get through to me. I'll take care of it and you call on me anytime.
Best Wishes to you

I forgot to mention this, but you said the back pain you believe is the hip. In my experience this is EXACTLY what happens. Deep Joint pain often radiates or travels to other areas. Later, as mine worsened, not only was my hip and back killing me, bu my knee on the Right leg. The opposite side often becomes painful because it is compensating for the injured, opposite leg/hip. I had to wear a knee brace before and after surgeries. It sounds strange, but that has been my experience.
