The real deal is, some people will do what they WANT to do regardless of the consequences of the law or to their own health. The point about making syringes and needles freely available to drug users is to prevent or at least slow down the trasnmission of deadly diseases through sharing needles.

We don't need a "Needle Gestapo" to keep track of who is using and who isn't. How many addicts do you suppose would take advanatage of them if they knew they would be "tracked" or watched? The answer is easy access to clean needles/syringes.

It truly is sad that "family values" politicians care more about their political-religious manifest destiny than they do for what is BEST for the people. This is true of SO MANY THINGS including pain medications, the ridiculousness of manadatory minimums that keep our prisons overfull, and other social policy created with the "father knows best" mentality.

Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
