Wanting to switch meds (for extreme back and neck pain Created from surgery) from Brand Lorcet. Lorcet causes quite a bit of gas, constipation and tired feeling. Would pain releif be compromised changing to the following. Not interested in trying a bunch of different Meds, Also what are some experienced side affects, of brand Lortab 10/500 or brand Norco 10/325. Awake feeling, dry mouth, nausea, ect... All feedback appreciated as well as all posts on this site.

Hon, it's the hydro, I believe that causes those side effects, not the brand (i.e. Lorcet/vicodin/norco). Also, different people report different side effects... while some people it makes sleepy, others it has the opposite effect and I am one of those others. Additionally, some people prefer more tylenol... others say they have more relief with less. Each med. will interact differently with different people.
I hope this helps.

I would try something other than the lorecet. too much apap. 650mg is a lot of apap. However, everybody is different, and for some, it works good.
Good luck.

I agree with Gracie, it is most likely the hydro itself. But it would be a good idea to switch to something with less apap. And I recommend that anyone who is on hydro to have a CMP test done every 6 months to check your kidney and liver functions. Acetametaphen is really bad for your body.

I never get constipated from my prescribed hydro, but my back gets awfully itchy.

Unfortunately I think the more effective analgesics share the same side effect profile. The different strengths you listed (as others have mentioned) are differences in acetaminophen (APAP) content. It is the hydrocodone itself that may cause constipation, dry mouth, nausea, drowsiness, or a sense of energy.
You can dry to mitigate the side effects by drinking plenty of water, taking Senokot or Senokot S as needed for constipation, using sugarless candy for dry mouth,
taking the med with a small meal if it upsets your stomach, and not taking a dose within a few hours of bedtime if it causes problems falling asleep.
Good Luck.

I have found two or three times daily doses of FLAX OIL (incapsule form) useful for the side effects of hydro that you are c/o. It's cheap and OTC. If you really get in a bind, bisacodyl tablets work well.
If the flax oil doesn't work out, try COLACE at bedtime.
All OTC and relieving when taken routinely. JMO
