I want to scream in frustration here as it seems my major points have been missed once again.
First of all, I never said the 40mg diskettes were ONLY for MMT programs. I SAID that they are not carried by the majority of local pharmacies (not by Walgreens, not by Target, not by Rite Aid, not by Snyder or WalMart or Osco...) and would have to be special ordered. I said that diskettes are used PRIMARILY by Methadone Maintenance Treatment programs, NOT that they are EXCLUSIVELY used for that.

The pills and diskettes are meant to be dissolved.
The PILLS areNOT "meant to be dissolved" (they are just like any other tablet and can be swallowed); however, the diskettes are supposed to be dispersed in water or another liquid before administration.

But just to let you know, methadone can be rxd by any Dr for pain
Yes, I know this. I am on methadone (prescribed by a PMD) for PAIN. I don't know if this was meant to be a blanket statement for those who assume differently, or if you simply failed to read my posts in their entirety before replying? I have long been an advocate for methadone for chronic, INTRACTABLE, moderately severe to severe pain (methadone is NOT a good med for anyone whose pain may resolve as it is VERY difficult to withdraw from and withdrawal can even be life-thereatening) BECAUSE it is cheap and very effective. It is also very slow to build tolerance--IF AT ALL.

And some MMT programs do dispense the "take homes" in 40mg diskette form.
Again, my previous post says this very thing. What I also said (and this true no matter which MMT program in ANY state) that WATER HAS TO BE ADDED TO THE DISKETTE BY THE PHARMACIST BEFORE DISPENSING TO MMT PATIENTS--INCLUDING TAKE-HOMES. This is to prevent diversion--hence the reason liquid is ALWAYS used in MMTs (diskettes are considered a "liquid" form of the drug.)
I don't mean to sound angry. As I said earlier in my post, I am feeling very much like people are reading one sentence of my post and clicking the "reply" button before they read ALL of it.
But I will stop slitting hairs now. I think we can ALL agree that the facts are that methadone TABLETS only come in 5 and 10mgs; diskettes ARE available in 40mgs and must be dissolved in water prior to administration, but are used mostly in MMTs; that methadone is a good PAIN medication (and is cheap.)
If thats not aggression torward me then.........................................
That's exactly what I have to do, and have always had to do. I remember one time after surgery, while I was In the hospital, they supplied my usual methadone for chronic pain and I had to drink 50ccs twice a day of the 1mg/ml methadone. I'm sure they must have had the Dolophine tablets in the hospital pharmacy, but for whatever reason, they sent up the liquid (with the alcohol in it, it tastes like Southern Comfort.)
My dose these days is much lower, but no matter how much I am prescribed, it is divided by ten or five mgs and I take as many tablets as is needed for that dose. I HATE the liquid and diskettes as they are not anywhere nearly as effective as the tablets.
