My doctor performed a laparoscopy last month to ablate endometriosis and the uterine neve. When I came out of the anesthesia, my boyfriend told me that the doc told him that I was missing my left ovary and fallopian tube. I remembered that my left ovary couldn't be visualized on two past CT scans and an ultrasound, but was told that that was common, and that it was probably behind the intestines.
I haven't had my post-op appointment yet, and haven't gotten a chance to innundate the doc with questions.
I've noticed that many DBer's are unusally intelligent and knowledgeable, and was hoping someone could shed some light on this :
I read that each Fallopian tube and corresponding half of the uterus forms from two different ducts, and then fuses together. The ovary forms from something else.
I've heard of people being born with two ovaries, one tube, and one half of a uteres, or one ovary, two tubes, and a full uterus. I can't figure out why I am missing just the tube, and an ovary to boot! They both seem like really rare events, and to have 2 organs that derive from different germ tissues missing seems impossible!
I'm half-worried that he's going to tell me that I'm a hermaphrodite (although I'm phenotypically female), and have some kind of wayward, undescended testicle!
I'm really worried about this! How is it possible?!

I USE TO MANAGE A GROUP OF REPRODUCTIVE DOCTORS, WHAT YOU FOUND OUT IS SOME WHAT RARE, BUT ITS NOT THE END OFTHE WORLD. I WAS BORN WITH ONLY 1 KIDNEY. THIS WAS JUST DISCOVERED WHEN I WAS PREGNANT WITH MY 2ND CHILD. AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE. BUT THE DR DID FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT IT TOOK 30 YEARS FOR ANYONE TO DISCOVER THIS.
I DON'T KNOW WHAT STATE YOU ARE IN BUT I WOULD GO TO A SPECIALIST. SOMEONE THAT HAS MORE EXPERIENCE AND GET A 2ND OPINION ON WHAT TO DO.
GOOD LUCK

My cousin was born without a uterus and her fallopian tubes. She does have her ovaries. I think your case is probably nothing more nefarious than a slight birth defect. I imagine you should still be able to get pregnant and carry a child even though getting pregnant MAY be more difficult.
Don't get discouraged! I had Pelvic Inflammatory Disease when I was 16 and even though I was told I would have a very difficult time with fertility due to the scarring in my tubes, I got pregnant within two months of "trying" each time. I'm not sure whether your primary concern would be fertility, but as you do have one (functioning?) ovary, you should be getting the estrogens you need for continued cardiac health.
Even if you were told you had an undeveloped or undescended testicle inside you, beyond fertility concerns what are you worried about? Nobody would know unless you shared it with them and the docs stopped making hermaphrodites wear the big blue H patch a decade ago! (a joke, sorry if the humor wasn't appreciated...just trying to lighten the mood!)
Take care of yourself, girl. You are a beautiful woman with LOTS of potential (and even more so now that your acne is gone.)

Night_Shade, its so funny that you say this because I had the same thing and I was told that I probably wouldn't have children. Well, I am the mother of 3 and let me tell you that I was fertile mertile until I got my tubes tied 3 years ago.

Anyone hear of "Pelvic congestion syndrome?" I was diagnosed with that after my surgery, but don't know the implications on having kidlets (if any).
