Let me begin by saying that I have a sophisticated anti-spam/virus software program running on my computer at all times - probably a level higher than that which you can buy in a store cheaply.
Last week while reading a couple of posts on drugbuyers I recieved an emergency notification from my software program that someone had just captured my IP address. At first I wasn't too alarmed. They hadn't attempted to do anything malicious or destructive. But then I used my software program to track down who had just 'peeked' in at what I was up to on the 'net. My software program indicated the violators server address was located inside the Washington DC Beltway and had a US government address.
To all of you that can read between the lines on this one.....I just want to give you a 'heads up'. There may be aliens amongst us.

It doesn't surprise me one little bit.
Here's another tidbit of strangeness.
We talked about spam on the board before, and I am getting the strangest stuff addressed to me BY NAME flawlessly spelled - and I have one of those weird french-dutch unpronounceable names!!
They offer me medicines, dates and porn, and they all know my name.
The funny thing is that when I created my email, I never once gave it out to anyone I didn't trust. I didn't use it to sign up for anything ever, and I kept track of my outgoing messages well.
And still the spam, addressed to me by name, arrived.
They have us where they want us. We cannot win, we cannot fight back. I get the most explicit stuff in my inbox, and it's not always on my mind, you know!
It may not be aliens, but I do think the spammers, and the Beltway are playing a game of cat and mouse. I think the roles change from time to time. Between them, they have a lot of spy technology. We are caught in the middle.

PS can anyone recommend a great spam killer for mac os X?

Anti spam / virus software won't protect u much from hackers.
You need a decent firewall and or router.
Give this site a try, test for any open ports on your computer, and wether your computer is showing as stealth to hackers.
GRC.com
Please don't assume this board is responsible for any hits u get on your computer.
Anytime u log into internet, you are open to various hacking attempts, unless you have most of the ports closed( showing as stealth) , and a good firewall.
I hate to see paranoia started about something like this.
If you r truly concerned, contact ADMIN.
I'm sure they will explain it better to u .
Re: the spam email , and snail mail, I have been on this board and VIP for over a year now, and never received any spam emails/snail mail from op's.
And yes, I have a specific addy I use for this board and the VIP board.

http://www.grc.com/ is an excellent site for securing Windows. You do not even need to install the software, you can open it from it's location and all the applications are tiny.
The man who built this site and all the utilities is a friend of my friend. I posted a link to this site back in December in one of the multitudes of other similar threads to this one. I always recommend it because it is free, it is informative and you need not install anything on your computer.
Use it, it works!

I learned a long time ago, that even with secured info, when it comes to computers, nothing is private. Everything is out there for all to see.
