Expired DHC, Keep or Flush???
      #168417 - 06/13/04 05:34 AM

Just wondering:

I have a few, (let's say a 100 tablet's total), of 90 and 120mg DHC, Yet the DHC expired almost 2 year's ago.

The DHC, is still in the original blister packages and have,
a little discoloration, they have begun to turn, sort of brown.

I think, most medication's, have lost their potency about 6 months, after their Expiration Date.

I have the DHC, because I just never needed them, so, therefore, I did not take the DHC.

They worked and worked Very Good. They were from a IOP, named Libsol, or something like that.
Which makes no difference as to whether to Keep or Flush them???

Just wondering what's you're opinion is on Expired Medication's. And, whether to Keep or Flush the one's that I have?

Snickers

Here's my 2 cents on this subject. KEEP THEM.

I found a bottle of Percodan that was FOURTEEN YEARS OLD while unpacking boxes in my attic. They worked as well as the OxyIR I just got prescribed. But that was just MY experience.

There are some medications that can become posionous after there expiration date. So knowing that and personally not know much about DHC I would say DON'T take one because you could become sick.

Maybe another member would know more!!!!! Sorry I couldn't help you out more.

Used to work in pharmaceuticals. FDA requires an expiration date on all meds. However, with the exception of liquid medication or antibiotics in pill form, most meds are good well beyond their expiration date. Just another example of the FDA asserting its self importance. A more screwed up organization in the government does not exist - wait I take that back - most government agencies subscribe to the " if it can become a federal case and require reams of paperwork then they are justified in their existance:)

I asked my pharmacist about a bottle of nubaine that was a year past. He said that FDA sets the expiration date at the point when the med has lost 10% of its potency. He also said the US Army did a study with some vietnam era morphine at 40 years old. It was 30-50% effective depending upon storage conditions.

if they've changed color, definately flush them.... would u use face cream that had separated/changed colour/looked mangy? Or a tin of beans that looked rusty or smelled bad? no.

I have DHC that is 6 months old and they still work perfect, but also, they're not brown !!

I have some Ultram that is 4 YEARS old and they are supposed to be green and yellow caps, but the yellow has faded a bit, I tried them in conjuction with the old DHC and got a nice sleep going on, and good pain relief.... who knows??

BUT, I'd still flush the brown DHC !
