What would most of you consider to be the best med to order for helping during the tapering process with benzos? Please don't say neurontin because it's too expensive and I only order domestically. Would an opiate such as hydro help? Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks in advance.

welcome vortex...clonidine will help lower your blood pressure, and help you get to sleep. It's cheap too...

this is a tough one. benzos are benzos, GABA Agonists. the most important thing you can really do is taper, i mean what are you going to do, drink alcohol, take GHB? that wouldnt be a good idea LoL. i agree with above, clonidine seems like it might be something to help. if you used benzos for sleep, then diphenhydramine is a non dependance alternative. of course, it probably wont work until your benzo withdrawl is all gone...

Don't know much about benzos other than what I have read about them, but I thought that benzo withdrawals can be dangerous? Isn't that something one should see a doctor about if they do not have enough medication left to slowly taper off?

Tapering slowly is the only way to go to avoid the harshness of the withdrawal, Yakyaw3 has a great formula somewhere on this board. But as for hydro, depending on how it affects you, it might make it worse unless you are taking it for pain. WD can cause muscle aches as well and in that case the hydro might help that. Sleeping will be hard even when tapering and diphenhydramine (nytol, sominex) or unisom might help but like the above poster said it might not help a lot. But you stated you have enough to taper so you may be able to do this with very little trouble, good luck.

Hey! The best bet is a slow taper mixed with other meds..clonidine is often used, as is Inderol (propanolol). Somtimes phenobarbital is used or, more commonly, a non-addicitve anti-convulsant such as tegretal or trileptal is used to help prevent seizures/convulsions during the withdrawal process. If you're taking benzos at therapeutic doses for anxiety, its common to start an anti-depressant during the taper. If the benzo is used for sleep (again, at therapeutic doses), a non-addictive sleep agent may be used if needed. Anyway, its always best to consult with a health pro about benzo withdrawal..it can be hellish. Sometimes it's necessary to do a pentobarbital/phenobarbital detox...in an ountpatient or inpatient setting, you'll be withdrawn from the benzo, switched to the barbiturate, and cross-tapered. Its painful but fast. Anyway, treatment depends on the benzo(s) of choice, length of use, and dosage, so your results may vary. GOod luck!

I also would suggest tapering. I tried cold turkey a few times and was a wreck. I could not sleep which was worst or function for a couple of days. I am currently tapering which is working fine for me. There is no magic pill to help that I have found.

Last time I tapered off years of daily Klonopin use I was put on a Phenobarbital taper. It worked like a charm!!!
PM me if you want more info. Peace.

Do you know what the standard dosage of propranolol is for this application?

Vortex, Whatever you do, DO NOT go into a cold turkey benzo withdrawl. Benzo withdrawl can be deadly dangerous. The risks include, but are not limited to, cardia arrest, stroke, tachardia, visual disturbances and brain splitting headaches. A benzo taper needs to be supervised by a doctor, period. Don't risk it. If you are in benzo withdrawl go to an ER right away. I know it is expensive and can be humiliating. But the truth is that doctors and nurses have seen it all and your plight will not shock. They are not there to judge and you ARE NOT in trouble. It is a medical emergency and is treated as such. Please be very careful. Peace, Daisy
