What to do?........I called my doctor friday for a refill, I spoke to one of his practioners, I asked for a refill, To make a long story short He stold me That my doctor quit the practice to pursue another career! So the other doctor, his partner, whom my Dad sees, wrote the script. I went to pick it up and they told me they couldn't see me anymore and gave me the name of another doctor. THIS REALLY SUCKS!!! I loved my doctor, he wrote me scripts for Percocet and klonopin and was very caring and understanding to my condition. I can see it now........I'm gonna go to this new guy hes gonna be a young, gung-ho doctor and he will probably recdommend psycotheropy for my panic attacks(which I have already tried and didn't do a darn thing) and I am sure he will not see a need for me to take percocet which I really, really need for my back. Maybe I'm assuming the worst! But I am not a happy camper.
Please Post with any experience or thoughts on my situation.
Thanks, Jeff

This is a good opportunity to get a copy of all your medical records with this doctor. You should even if you think you don't need/want them, as they might disappear.

I agree, go get your records.
AND, since your doctor is just going to 'cease to exist' (as a doctor) so to speak, you could be forgiven for checking out a multitude of doctors just to see what their policy is.
Can you still get your old doc to perhaps give you a short-list of esteemed colleagues, whom he might recommend treat you along the same lines he did? Because a recommendation from one professional to another to prescribe Percocet might carry more clout than the patient telling the doctor he needs it, backwards as that may be..
Best of luck to you!

your doctor must arrange an "orderly transfer of care"...i.e. your care must be continued until you can find a suitable provider...don't hesitate to remind them of that...go see the new doc, ask for a letter of introduction from current practice, including the current regimine of care, meds prescribed, etc....then DON'T make the change in practice UNTIL you find a practitioner willing to continue the care you received.....patient abandonment is grounds for malpractice...keep the conversation friendly, but firm, and only mention that as a last resort.

Thanks to everyone for the info......but he is already gone!! I got my last script for percocet from his partner whom is another doctor in the same office. I don't know if they had a falling out or what. Luckily I still have three more refills of Klonopin at the pharmacy. But the other doctor has too many patients. I got a letter today saying that they can no longer treat me and they gave me a phone number to find a new doctor. I really hope my doctor isn't quiting. Hopefully he will open his own practice....I don't know. But,yes it will be hard to find a doctor to prescribe percocet like he did.

Absolutely!
I was forced to move due to a knee replacement that went terribly wrong. I had to sell my home and move to Florida to be near my family to help me. My doctor in NJ actually set me up with an Orthopedist in Florida who then got me into Pain Management.
I assumed I was just extremely lucky but they told me it should be standard procedure to assist a patient with continued care. I know this rarely happens but it did happen for me, Thank God.
Don't let them leave you stranded.
Best of Luck to you.

this is not a coincidence. look hard NOW. A lot of doctors are choosing to cut their losses with the HMOs and hostile climate toward prescibing.
Look now.
Good luck; I know you will find someone; I am just gonna think that way.
