Hi,i fell off my motorbike the day and have been in pretty bad pain, all my doctor gave me were bloody codeine/paracetemol mix(more para 86% than codeine%)which are doing nothing.Anyway a mate of mine has given me some tramadol(100mg injections)actual name tramadol asta(foreign name from spain i think) and also some tral gotas which is basicaly a liquid. All i want to know is that do these meds work?are they safe etc?And if they are no use anyone reccomend a good pain med and where i can get it from?Cheers
Tramadol Hydrochloride - known as Zydol, Zamadol (both 50mg tabs) or Tramake (sachets) in the UK, I used to have them but they made me queasy. They come under the heading of Opiod Analgesics, Morphine Salts, for Moderate to Severe Pain (in the BNF - british national formulary / physician desk reference), so yes they are safe, and a current UK prescribed medicine.
Be careful with the injections, the 100mg are for post-op pain and must be given intra-muscular over 2-3 mins or via a drip. Make sure someone who knows what they're doing gives you the injection if you use those. Don't plan on standing up once you've had it
GP's do prescribe them in the UK, just go back and tell him the co-codamol (which i'm guessing is what he gave you - Kapake/Tylex/Solpadol?) just aren't cutting it. At least make him give you co-dydramol.
hope that helps. If you need any more info on pain meds in the UK, PM me (anyone).
