Courtney Love
      #159207 - 05/03/04 06:09 PM

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Singer-actress Courtney Love pleaded innocent to two felony drug counts involving prescription pain killers stemming from a response by Beverly Hills police to her home last October, court sources said. Love is charged with one count each of possession of hydrocodone and oxycodone. She contends she has prescriptions for the pills and her lawyer said he expected the charges to be dropped. On April 15, Beverly Hills Superior Court Judge Elden S. Fox found sufficient evidence to require the 39-year-old widow of grunge rocker Kurt Cobain to stand trial. A pretrial hearing is set for June 4. Earlier this month, defense attorney Michael Rosenstein accused prosecutors of "turning this into a circus and a witch hunt.

"We've indicated to the district attorney's office that Miss Love has had prescriptions for all of the medicine that's been seized," Rosenstein said. "I couldn't imagine what the district attorney's intent is here, other than to make an example out of Miss Love." Love is charged separately in Los Angeles with one misdemeanor count each of being under the influence of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct. That case, in which a hearing is set for Monday, stems from her arrest by Los Angeles police last Oct. 2 -- reportedly at her ex-boyfriend's house -- a few hours before Beverly Hills officers went to her residence.

So what you are saying is that we shouldn't make Courtney our Chronic Pain Sufferers' mascot? -- a voice with media credibility that could speak out for us!

I'm with Pickle. No apology here either. That broad is a pig. She looks like she needs a shower more than anything. Is she a flash in the pan or are kids interested in her music and mayhem? Someone has to be spending money on her music/products, whatever it is she does. If there wasn't money fueling her she would disappear from the radar screen in a hurry. I am not up on pop culture. I am just curious. What demographic is driving this nonsense? Peace, Daisy

Wow some Courtney haters here I guess, My thing is she claims to have prescriptions for these meds, she very well may be a CP sufferer just like the rest of us, why critisize her without evidence first, you may not like her appearance or her music but whos to say she doesnt suffer like the rest of us? I personally do not enjoy her music but I would stand up for her rights along with anyone else that is in pain..........

I am not a hater of Courtney Love, I just posted the article to show how ridiculous this whole thing is ... anyway ... it looks like the misdemeanor charge for being under the influence of a controlled substance had more to do with cocaine

http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/ae/2548371

LOS ANGELES -- The prosecutor in the misdemeanor drug case against Courtney Love said Monday she tested positive for cocaine when she was arrested last year. After a judge continued the trial to May 25, Assistant City Attorney Jerry Baik told reporters outside the courtroom that Love tested positive for several illegal drugs after the October arrest, including cocaine. He declined to identify the other drugs. Love, the widow of grunge rocker Kurt Cobain and former lead singer of the rock band Hole, recently released a solo album, America's Sweetheart. Love did not appear at the Monday court hearing, one of two cases stemming from Oct. 2 incidents.

She faces misdemeanor charges of being under the influence of a controlled substance and disorderly conduct after being arrested for allegedly trying to break into the Los Angeles home of a former boyfriend. After her release, emergency workers were called to her home and took her to a hospital for a drug overdose. Police have testified she handed one officer a plastic bag of pills, which were later identified as oxycodone and hydrocodone -- painkillers for which her attorney claims she had prescriptions. Love was charged with two felony counts of possession of controlled substances. She faces more than three years in prison if convicted. The felony and misdemeanor cases are being tried separately.

Well it's obvious you don't appreciate high culture. Perhaps if you read the following recent review, you might develop some insight into how much she "reveals" herself in her music. Who does she appeal to? Jaded hipsters mostly.

New York Daily News - May 5th. 2004

Courtney Disaster, Part...

Courtney Love outdid herself in Atlanta with a rambling set the left fans wondering whether she'll be able to pull out of her spiral.

"I'd like to thank the Academy of Hell and the Devil for [messing] up my life", she told a crowd Sunday at the Music Midtown festival.

A spywitness tells us: "she started crying and was saying 'Give me back my kid and my money.' Everyone thought that it was very disturbing."

Love, 39, is facing cocaine and illegal-prescription-drugs charges in L.A. and recently lost custody of Frances Bean, 11, her daughter with Kurt Cobain.

At another point, recalls our source, "She undressed on stage and pulled out her boobs, then barely could get bra back up."

She also invited a blond girl up from the crowd, saying, "You're hot, sit here."
After asking the fan to sing "Violet" with her, she pushed her aside, saying "Sit down, you can't sing."

Love eventually pushed through security to jump into an SUV full of fans who had offered to give her a lift. Says the source: "The SUV returned her to the site shortly afterward. She was a mess!"

Yep... Courtney's appeal is a mystery to me, too. If I wanted to watch people self-destruct before my very eyes, I'd attend more family reunions (just kidding!).

Sorry that anyone can be as messed-up as Ms. Love but if she is a borderline personality (as alleged), she needs a therapist more than an audience.

BTW, Daisy , glad to have you on board!!

Courtney Love is an odd duck - no denying that one. She's kinda freaky to me, and I don't like her music. However, I did think she was great in The People vs. Larry Flint (don't know how big a stretch that part was though), and I do give her credit for keeping the same grunge/punk look (with the exception of that one year where she cleaned up her look and went hollywood) for almost 15 years. She really should've gotten the part of Nancy in Sid & Nancy - she looks just like Nancy.
I do feel sorry for her, but I also think she made her own choices.

I saw her on the news this morning and she looks "awful!" really skinny and in desperate need of drying out and some food!!! I dont think she is smart enough to have gotten away with Kurts murder,, "if anyone buys into that conspiracy theory" I live near Seattle and the fan base runs deep, even today..
