i moved to england from the US two months ago for what i thought would be a strait year.instead for personal reasons i have to go back to the USA for two to three weeks my problem is i finally found an understanding dr. who perscribes me 45mgs of methadone a day and also 12mgs of clonazipam a day (i dont think they know verry much about clonazipam and dont perscibe it hardly ever. its a valium country) befor i left the states i ordered 90 2mg kpins (i think they call it Rivitrol over here) any way she assked how many i take a day and i said six meaning mgs. she wrote the persciption for for six 2mg pills dailly two in the morning and so on it came out to 12mgs a day thats way to much. at least for me to funtion so i keep at least half of them every week. i just think of all the rainy days in the US when i had none. TO GET TO THE POINT. i have to come back to the US and am worried about customs taking my methadone. i have a realy good relationship with my dr. and she may perscribe enough for two or three weeks.should i be afraid of customs? will they take my methadone? will they arrest me? over here methadone comes in a green sugary liquid will they notice this in my suitcase am i allowed to bring it to the states with me does any one know if there is a limit. if they take my meds i could go into severe withdrawls in days . DOES ANYONE KNOW THE LAW. dont mean to shout but needed to get some help if you know the laws or the ways around it or have any suggestions at all i would greatly appreciate a responce please help im running out of time you can post or please pm me with sugestions i need all the help i can get im verry worried PLEASE help me i am realy scared.

When you go through customs when departing back to England you will get a form to declare your prescription medicines, it should make no difference as to what it is if you have a prescription. If you conceal it in your bag and dont declare it then they have the right to seize it. Is your Doctor in the Us or England, but if you had some copies of your medical documents as well, you should have no problems. My parents are elderly and have a gallon plastic bag filled with their prescription drugs and they travel overseas frequently and theyve never had any problems.

1xanax, here is a link for you to read, if everything you are precribed is valid, it sounds like your covered. www.customs.gov/cgi-bin/customs.cfg/php then read the FDA restrictions. Good luck.

Green sugary liquid?
Could it possibly pass as Gatorade? Or some sort of British sports drink U.S. Customs isn't likely to know the exact color and look of? I would just put it in a bottle like that, bring it with your carry-on luggage as if you're going to drink it on the plane, and simply not declare it.
That's if you're paranoid.
But I can't believe that no British citizens on methadone/OxyContin/any CII have ever come into this country. I really don't think Customs is going to hassle you over it if you've got a legitimate prescription from a British doctor. It does not appear as shady to most people as would a prescription from, say, a Mexican doctor. So while they may legally be able to seize it, I don't think they would hassle you. Especially if you've only got enough for yourself that would cover you until the return flight.
Don't take that as legal advice, I don't know how the laws work for an American citizen living in England coming back to America with a prescription for a CII.
Maybe you could call US Customs and simply ask them what to do, just say you're coming from Australia and lie about the city you're coming through in case there really is a problem. I dunno, I really don't think you'll have a problem, and I think this is very common.

I travelled to Australia a couple of years back, and took sch II meds with me. I declared them upon entry, AND had a note from my Doctor stating that he had prescribed the medications for a chronic condition I suffered from.
With the note, and having the prescriptions in their ORIGINAL containers with the pharmacy info, Dr's name, fill date, drug name, dosage etc... I had NO problems at all. I also didn't have any problems coming back into the US.
In fact, I even brought back a package of the coedine products they sell OTC there, US Customs went through my luggage because I didn't claim it (it came in someplace else so I put in a complaint to have it found .. mis-communication), and they left it untouched, on top of my clothing ~shrugs~
You'll be fine. Get a note from your Doctor saying that he/she knows you're travelling overseas and has prescribed the following medications for you (should list ALL meds, not just scheduled narcotics), and you'll be fine!

According the the us customs site, the restricted drugs not allowed are illicit drugs and prescription drugs without a prescription, theres no mention of what schedule it has to be but proof of prescription is required and you can only take the amount that is for your own personal use. 120 K for a week stay may be considered to much.

I was in Europe three months ago (England, Germany and Austria)If you check your luggage with the airline, TSA doesn't go through every bag - just a percentage. I'd take Yawkaw's advice and put it in a Gatorade or a Nyquil-type bottle (or even a well-rinsed shampoo bottle if you're really worried), and put it into your carry-on. I have 3-4 prescriptions I take regularly (including pain meds - Norco and Duragesic patches) and my bag passed right through the scanner every time with no problem. We went through Heathrow, Gatwick, Salzberg, Innsbruck, Frankfurt, JFK and LAX, and it was never opened.
I never saw anything in any of the Customs docs we were given that said you had to declare personal medications, nor was I asked to. In my case, maybe ignorance was bliss!
I just made sure I had copies of my prescriptions, but never needed them.

Don't know the law but would suggest calling the U.S. Customs Service headquarters general info number in Washington, D.C. and ask for the "Customs Entry Control" telephone number. Hope that helps.

The best advice I (or anyone) can give you, is DON'T HIDE THE MEDICATION! If you do, and it's discovered, then it appears as though you had something to hide - and you don't! It is legally prescribed to you by a licensed and practicing physician in the country you reside in.
Calling the Embassy or US Customs was also VERY good advice! Let them know exactly what the meds are. Also, calling early would be a good idea, because if for some reason you CANNOT take your medication into the US with you (I really can't see this happening, but we're talking about the Government here - so I guess literally ANYTHING is possible lol) you will have time to consult with your Dr. about something else you can take for the time you'll be abroad.
Anyway, good luck! And please keep us posted as to what the Embassy or Customs says!

yeah, when ever i've traveled to EU and back, my meds are in the plastic bag with my toothbrush, comb, etc. nobody has ever made an issue of them.

Listen man,youve no worrys..similar experience myself only a couple of years ago travelling from Uk to Canada(and they are well up their own arses)First thing tell your doctor your going on holiday back to the US and he'll write you out a form that you can produce at customs,i produced it right away at the Uk end and they didnt even read it,just waved me thru.At the canada end i forgot all about it,they were checking my bags and found it but i had allready put in a cough bottle(night nurse i think,thats green and nasty)she took one look at it and put right back in the bag...no worrys mate...4 weeks in canada with an enormous ammount of methadone(strictly for personal use of course).It didnt end happily though,i ended up getting deported for,guess what,methadone,if i had only showed the slip at the canadian customs all would have been fine,i think.She kept going on about the street value of so much methadone in canada where its hard to get hold off.So my advice tell your doctor and enquire(under a different name)at the US embassy or whatever.Good luck
