The local fox station reported on the dangers of buying drugs online They focused on the, of course pain meds. They went so far to have a addiction counselor. The counselor was trying to be acerate and talk about vicodin but the reporter kept talking about oxycontin. The reporter did not have there facts straight. They kept talking how easy it was to buy oxys online the counselor (to give him credit) tried to point out that it is far easier to buy Valium/ ativan online then to buy oxy or hydro but the way the reporter made it seem was all you need to do is point click and you get oxycontin.
It is this misrepresentation that is fueling the war on Ops. The perception of the public is that you can get it so easy. These spams that people get tout C2 to get you to look at there site then you get a patient info sheet on oxy but can only buy C3s. But the general public just see the add for oxycontin and believe that you can truly buy oxy online.
I suggest 2 things. First is when we, and I mean chronic pain patients see this type of reporting call the reporter and correct this misperception.
Second the people who are shooting this millions of spam advertise more responsible. This way there is less misperception. And drop the bait and switch tactic.

I agree...the Oxycontin hype needs to stop. One thing that MUST happen is the OP (and possibly IOP) industry needs to stand up and start taking some offensive and defensive action. Hire lobbyists, do press conferences, do SOMETHING...the Ryan Haight act, for instance, threatens their very existence, and yet I don't see the industry doing ANYTHING. Ever since OPs came online, they've been seen as shady, and the industry has only fueled that. It's time for OPs to start re-making their image and fighting the negative and often inaccurate reports about them found in the media. Also, patients need to organize more and explain how and why OPs/IOPs meet their needs. Without exposing the public to the NORMAL users of OPs/IOPs, we may soon see the entire industry destroyed. Sorry, just my rant.
