I have some samples that my doctor gave me of celebrex 200mg and i dont have any other info on it. Is this medication a once a day kinda thing or how do you take it? has anyone ever been on this drug? If so did it work well?

I had some free samples also. Tried taking them for migraines, didn't do a thing for me. I think they may only be an anti inflammatory drug.

Celebrex (celecoxib) is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicine (NSAID) that is used to reduce pain and inflammation (swelling and soreness). Though it primarily is prescribed for arthritis, Celebrex sometimes is also used for dental pain or menstrual camps. It comes in 100 mg and 200 mg doses.

More information on Celebrex uses, side effects, etc. can be found at:
FDA - Celebrex

If you are allergic to NSAIDs (like aspirin) or sulfa drugs, taking Celebrex can bring about a similar allergic response.

Dosage Information Rx list

Osteoarthritis: For relief of the signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis the recommended oral dose is 200 mg per day administered as a single dose.

Rheumatoid arthritis: For relief of the signs and symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis the recommended oral dose is 100 to 200 mg twice per day.

IMHO, Celebrex is nothing more than an overpriced and over-rated Motrin.

I had also placed a post under xanax because of my arm problem here is what is going on with me:

I am wondering if Xanax is or can also be used for a muscle relaxant? I am having terrible pain in both my arms all the way down to my fingers and its like a very deep pain almost feels like the pain is in the bones of my arms and also pain in my neck and shoulders. when i lay down at night i can not sleep on my sides or on my stomache because it seems like my body weight increases the pain so bad i cry. Thank you guys for any help that can be given

P.S. i also take hydro 10/325 and have tried taking this for the pain and it doesnt even touch it i also take Stadol NS for headaces and tried to use that to see if it will help with the pain with no relief. I actally feel that it is really deep down in my bones. I can not even raise my arms up far at all and can not even lift on my children which sucks really bad because they are both sick so i feel like i am not being the comforting mother i should be but the pain will not even let me pick them up. i even tried to lify a gallon (half a gallon) of milk out of the fridge but the pain was so very intense i dropped it. sorry i keep going on but i dont know what this is and i need some help. if you guys know of any other med that would help me please feel free to post it or PM me please i am in need so bad to get rid of this pain

Celebrex is truly JUST glorified Motrin. In terms of chemical make-up it is nearly indistinguishable from Ibuprofen. Its claim to 'fame' is that it is easier on the stomach. That really is all it is, nothing more, nothing less. Peace, Daisy

The stuff is basically useless. Just like Betrex or whatever the pharm sellers are leaving as samples for the docs.

You are probably referring to Bextra, in which you are right, its worthless.

Celebrex was the first thing my Doctor gave for my back problem. Not only did it NOT work at all, it made me break out with these little like sores on my face and in my mouth. They, too, were free samples. Good thing because i hear that Celebrex is pretty expensive.

As for the original poster and your pain...what does your Doctor say about your pain? Is he/she helping or just simply treating you like you don't have anything more than just a common ache? Doctors seem to think that anyone having a TRUE problem that creates pain is a typical complainer. I sincerely hope that your Doctor is a good one and takes care of you like he/she should.

I wish you all the luck and hopefully you'll find the pain free days that you deserve.

My doctor (if you want to call him one) says that "i must of slept on my arm wrong) well heck i must be sleeping on both of them wrong every night and day when i am even awake! he hasnt even attempted to send me to get x-rays or anything he didnt even prescribe anything like muscle relaxers i am just wondering also if Xanax will work as a muscle relaxer as well if they do i will just get a few from my dad to see if thhey might help. I went to the Er tonight and they didnt even prescribe me a pot to pee in. I am so fed up with these doctors i can not even stand it so i just cant wait to get my bill from the Er because i hate to let them know i am not paying it for nothing they didnt even want to do a x-ray either! i guess this is going to be another night of no sleep and pain!

Stay AWAY from Celebrex! Unless you would rather have ALL kinds of physical problems you did NOT have before..**HEED THIS WARNING**..I once thought this was the "Magic Wand" for about 2 weeks..then it was "severe havoc upon me"..period! Celebrex,Bextra,Vioxx..are ALL the SAME!! IF you really, truly want to pay $3-4.00..EACH for an Ibuphrophen(nothing wrong with them!)..then go ask your next door neighbor..I'm sure he would gladly let you, help him,pay HIS house payment!! **STAY AWAY**..and be MUCH BETTER OFF!!! Heed my advice..I thought "I was cured".."almost as if by magic"(for a few short days)..what a CRUEL,sad and bad...JOKE!! Then you are left with a big bottle of $3.50 pills that you are AFRAID to take and can do nothing with..Just a WARNING...but a warning from one who has been there more than once!! **PAY HEED**..as I hate to have any of you guys suffer needlessly...it IS TERRIBLE!!
IN FACT..I have never had any bad things happen from Ibuphrophen,Motrin,Aleve or any of those..but this other $3.50 each stuff SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!!!! I AM NOT KIDDING!!!(NOT one bit)
Your's,
The Voice of Experience
**Ever wonder why they GIVE it away at the doctor's office?? It truly is a PRIME example of of getting what you pay for..FREE..equals=**WORTHLESS..HARMFUL**..and then you go,like the fool I have been, and pay $3.50 each!!(or so) for the next batch!! HEED MY WORDS..**STAY AWAY**PLEASE**

Please use caution with all NSAIDS.

They claim to better for your stomach but are notorious for GI bleeds.
I spent 4 days in the hospital suffering from a GI bleed after taking them.

1st the Dr tried Celebrex…no pain relief.

2nd he prescribed Vioxx…some pain relief but then I had a massive bleed.

Even with that my history of GI bleeds the Dr still attempted to try Bextra…..I said thanks but no thanks & found another Dr.

I would suggest taking any NSAID (even plain old Advil) with a large meal to help coat your stomach.

There are a lot of different causes for arm and shoulder pain and what you appear to need most right now is an accurate diagnosis to pin-point the source of the problem.

While Xanax might help with anxiety about your discomfort, I'm not sure it would do anything to eliminate the pain, itself. Its primary use is to manage the symptoms of anxiety and to treat panic disorder.

If you are taking any sort of statin drug for high cholesterol (like Lipitor, etc.) this can also cause severe muscle pain in some individuals. Fibromyalgia causes 'deep' aching but the pain tends to "roam": your knee might be killing you for a couple of days, then your shoulder aches, then something else begins hurting, etc. Fibro is an elusive syndrome which is diagnosed by physical examination and blood tests to rule out other disorders.

Hope you are able to find a doctor who can help you find the source of your arm problem - then begin treating it.

Yep, NSAIDs are touted by doctors as the answer to all pain problems but they sure can wreak havoc on your body. Over 10 years ago, I was prescribed Voltaren for arthritis and ended up will multiple stomach ulcers.

Despite this, my GP decided to try me on Vioxx (another NSAID) years later for the same problem. Evidently my body was smarter than he was, and I developed hives and a rash from it.

Several more years passed and my first rheumatologist ignored my listed allergies to NSAIDs. She prescribed Celebrex. I developed hives and a rash, again...no surprise.

The second rheumatologist reviewed everything, prescribed physical therapy and Tylenol 3 but skipped the NSAIDs. This treatment has worked out well for me.

It is frustrating how doctors will routinely prescribe NSAIDs for pain without reviewing the patient's history of allergies or previous medical conditions (ulcers). IMHO, these drugs are far more dangerous than opiates.

Just chiming in ..... a few years ago when I developed arthritis, my doc tried Vioxx (got hivey and itchy), then Celebrex (got bloaty and itchy). I stayed away from the
COX-2's until a few months ago, when my new md prescribed Mobic (also a COX-2), I take it with a Zyrtec every morning and have had no problems whatsoever. I check my BP weekly, just to make sure there are no hidden problems. COX-2's can affect kidney function, and my doc takes blood tests to check, but so far so good. The Mobic however, doesn't take away all the pain
